If install the 4.1.17 updated samba, will I lose my NAS configuration
Old thread but hoping someone is still reading.
I wish to try this update to SMB 2/3 and have questions due to my inexperience with Linux. I am comfortable with SSH however. My question(s) involve the instructions posted by bc732.
- If install the 4.1.17 updated samba, will I lose my NAS configuration? Particularly my shares?
- Are the mkdir instructions referenced at the root level?
- I don't use an SMB password, so do I need 'smbpasswd'? I'm guessing not.
- I feel that the only steps that I need to take are :
- apt-get remove samba-common libwbclient0
- mkdir /run
- mkdir /run/samba
- mkdir /var/lib/samba/private
- dpkg -i samba_4.1.17-1_sparc.deb
- min protocol = smb2 (in /etc/samba/smb.conf:)
- /etc/init.d/samba restart
I would appreciate any help with these questions.

Re: If install the 4.1.17 updated samba, will I lose my NAS configuration
I managed to properly get my Duo configured and it runs just fine.
However, I actually use my Duo as a printer server also. So bc732 admitted that he didn't build the samba package with cups support due to issues, so that must be the reason the print feature is no longer working. I would like to try to build the package and work out the issue(s) the bc732 experienced. If anyone knows how to reach bc732 to ask for direction, it would be appreciated. I pm'd him but he is no longer monitoring.
Any help would be appreciated -
