ReadyNAS OS Where is version info stored? 6.10.9 x64

Hi,

this is topic following question in large topic (https://community.netgear.com/t5/New-ReadyNAS-Users-General/ReadyNAS-312-swapping-HDD-for-SSD-filesy...

Question is.. i am awared differences between 6.10.9 the last good and the 6.10.10 which is crippled i mean limited debian with missing components.. and also missing webpage for apps and their administration and installation. They say you can do this via SSH or command line. Sure it does the job, but not with missing linux components it is painful and often impossible to get necesarry linux components. Thats why i will stay with flawsless 6.10.9

But question is.. altought id like the last version, and i hate when ReadyNAS is offering me updates from 6.1.10.9 to 10, i just thought i could trick myself and maybe update component? IDEA IS: Where is stored ReadyNAS version? Thats what im curious about. Would be possible just simplty to change version in file or sql database of NAS? Could do the job, preventing unwanted misclicked updates, or sceen offering-encouraging to update unit to 6.10.10. and i would feel as winner seeing this version number in my unit without having its flaws.

Voila! Could you tell pls developers..

// my reply to previously linked topic, i just wanted to say i have all the distros like is recommended to edit sources.list and apt.conf i have done the changes described in https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS-in-Business/How-I-got-apt-update-and-install-to... But still... nice webadmin page with apps and scale of apps to install, or by uploading deb files vs emptiness, and crippled linux. Thanks for understanding.

Just turning off update notifications will prevent the NAS from advertising 6.10.10 when you log into the admin web ui.

  1. Go to System->Settings
  2. Expand "Update" if needed.
  3. Uncheck "Notifications for updates" in the second column of the update section.

Re: ReadyNAS OS Where is version info stored? 6.10.9 x64

I am awared there is such an option, but i would like to know, where is version info store.. if file, or mysql database. Running MySQL along with PHPMyAdmin gave me access probably to NAS sql database in the very same moment and files i can search or search content.. would you know or could specify pls, how ReadyNAS OS version info is stored?

How the OS itself handles version and version info in webadmin page? ..  meanwhile im going to look on webadmin files content. 🙂

I've never tried to hack the version info, so I do not know the implications of attempting it.

Also, I see no need to hack it, since there is a simple way to block an inadvertant update.

What Debian components are missing from 6.10.10?  I've never gone to it except on a sandbox system.

Re: ReadyNAS OS Where is version info stored? 6.10.9 x64

Just cosmetic ReadyNAS change for peace in mind. No hack, just edit. Pretty smart solution for me. 🙂 Idk which components but it was mentioned here, with no apps webpage etc, there is reduced size and more lightweight sharpened debian too.

Sometimes we say.. "wolf has eaten, goat remained whole.." 🙂

Altough i dont recommend this, i have found in /etc/ these two following files os_version and os-release and by editing one line in vi text editor, changing version number from 6.10.9 to 6.10.10. And it works! Voila.

1 Little problem is.. one of my installed apps, shown in apps tab, doesnt appear in main page - NAS webadmin dashboard. Would you know, how to fix it? I tried touch config.xml and touch .localapp in app directory.

2 And regarding updates check, currently on my NAS does not work. I click search update, and get error message about could not reach server, because connection or dns fail. Altough all is working. I have checked, correct ip, and gate to internet, no blocked dns domains, i dont know how to fix it

3 One of apps from apps webpage dashboard does not display on ReadyOS intro dashboard webpage. How do i fix this? i have tried touch config.xml and .localapps.

I am seeing that too, so it is not a problem with your NAS or your home network..

No idea if it is temporary or not.
