Nighthawk XR500 Dropping Internet

I have an XR500 that drops internet intermittently for no reason. It's running firmware v2 3.2.134 and says it's the most current update. I've dealt with my ISP multiple times and they would say all is fine on their end. Sometimes when recycle everything, it works again. Sometimes it does not. I turn off and unplug the coax and Ethernet from the modem and router then wait 2 minutes. Plug the coax into the modem, turn it and wait 2 minutes, plug in the Ethernet betheen the modem and router then plug in the router. When this doesn't work, the only thing that does is I have the ISP send some sort of command then the same procedure and it works. This thing just looses connection when nothing is going on except my Ring cameras and other wi-fi lights and plugs. It will disconnect and turn amber when I'm not even home and nothing is streaming or downloading and Internet drops. Any suggestions?

In LAN Settings, set the DHCP range to start at .50, then assign reserved IP addresses to devices between .2 & .49 so they're out of the DHCP range, apply, reboot from the interface, wait 2 minutes and see if that stops the disconnects.

Thank you! I had already had .10 as the starting point as I only have two managed switches and two printers assigned in there thinking that the rest of my network could stay above that since I only have one computer I use reserved and another laptop I rarely use reserved above the .10 numbers. I do have a lot of smart home devices such as plugs, light bulbs, Ring doorbells and cameras, TVs as well as various other cameras. I reserved only two computers and let the rest assign itself. I will expand that up to .50 if you think that will make a difference or if you think it could be this I just discovered below...

 

UPDATE: Since posting this initial post, I found out I have a lot of DoS attacks. I contacted my ISP for a new IP address because renewing my DHCP lease used to reset and give me a new IP address years ago but it seems to not be that way now. They said I had to swap out my modem. Here's some of the attacks I'm getting. Don't know what else to do except swap out my modem. Any ideas? Thanks!

I would highly recommend setting all devices connected a reserved IP address, it's precisely the auto allocation of IPs that I believe is the issue so reserving them should prevent the issue.

Netgear routers notoriously report DoS attacks when they're not a cause for concern and just show connections you've made/websites you've come in contact with. However, yours do show a lot of Asian IPs which I don't think you'd normally make contact with. They shouldn't cause you any issues at all, the router does have a firewall so they will be blocked. Unplugging your modem for 10 minutes may prompt a new IP

Ok. Thank you. I just have over 70 devices and not all of them list what they are so I will have to figure out what they are and label them properly an assign them an IP. Maybe that will let me track any funny business with some of these Chinese light bulbs and such. Thanks again!

 

Now if I can only figure out why my google mail settings aren't working to email me the logs. But that's another post.

That is a bit of a mission to reserve them all but I do think it'll help. Ahh the light bulbs and such will probably be it then!

That's purely a Netgear feature so I'm not too sure about that, could be you need direct access to the internet so make sure the XR WAN IP is in the DMZ of your ISP modem/router and it should work then.

Thanks but not sure how to set that up. Only setting for DMZ I see is for a default DMZ server IP address. No range or anything about the ISP.

The modem/router your XR is connected to, access that interface, find the DMZ feature on that router/modem then enter the XR WAN IP (found on the XR System Information page)

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.
