XR1000 can't connect wireless printer Canon MF635cx

Hi,

Ever since switching to my new XR1000 router, I can't connect the printer. Sometimes directly after connecting it to the 2.4GHz network it responds - but only shortly - and after a few minutes it gets a 169.254.x.x IP assigned.

Even if I enter a fixed IP in the printer, I can't communicate with it. I

I have also tried resetting the network configuration in the printer and reconnecting both manually and using WPS. It connects fine initially - but shortly after, it's as if communication breaks.

If I hook up my old Nighthawk X4S router, then it works fine.

I am on the latest FW 1.0.0.64_1.0.49.

  • Have you tried disabling AX mode on the routers web page under Basic/Wireless Settings?

What channels are you using? 1, 6 or 11 is recommended.

Be sure the FW on the printer is up to date.

Contact Canon for additional help and information regarding there product.

Does the printer connect using ethernet wire cable to the router?

See attached file in other reply for my WiFi settings.

Disabling AX mode on an AX router? Why buy an AX router then. But I can certainly try it too see if it helps.

Printer drivers & firmware are up to date.

I am contacting Netgear, because functionality broke with their product being introduced. Did you miss, that when I connect my old router it works again?

See if disabling AX mode helps. Some devices may not be able to handle having this mode being enabled. This would be a printer issue, not a NG router issue.

Also try enabling 20/40Mhz Co-existence as well.

One test to try as a quick test, disable WPA security temporarily on the router and connect the printer to the router to see if it keeps connected or not. Re-enabled WPA2 and AES after testing or try mixed mix mode WPA and WPA2 and test.

If other devices connect fine to the router and this one device doesn't, would be a issue between the router and your printer. Could be some wifi incompatibilities on the printer and the router.

Try connecting the printer via ethernet as well.

  • Are you using Smart Connect for WiFi as well? If so disable that so it only tries to connect to 2.4GHz.

I am not using Smart Connect. I did see that as a solution in another case.

      My Wireless settings is attached.
