As of May 22 2022 the option to allow less secure apps for Gmail access has been removed
As of May 22 2022 the option to allow less secure apps for Gmail access has been removed. Now everytime I try to email anything via Gmail from my rax45 router (latest firmware as of June 22 2022) (all email settings correct and quadruple checked) are met with a username and password not accepted message. Google made a recent change to disalow just username and password logging from less secure apps? Does this mean we have to wait for an update?
To help keep your account secure, from May 30, 2022, Google no longer supports the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password.
Important: This deadline does not apply to Google Workspace or Google Cloud Identity customers. The enforcement date for these customers will be announced on the Workspace blog at a later date.
For more information, continue to read.
If an app or site doesn’t meet our security standards, Google might block anyone who’s trying to sign in to your account from it. Less secure apps can make it easier for hackers to get in to your account, so blocking sign-ins from these apps helps keep your account safe.
So does this mean the issue is on netgear and we have to wait? Or just ditch gmail as the email service provider?

Issue is not on NG. You just need to setup Google mail for 2FA and 3rd party app password on the Google account. Use this 3rd party app generated PW on the router for emailing logs to a gmail address account.

The attached was put together for IP cameras that use Gmail for notifications. They were in the same situation as routers trying to use Gmail. Not a step by step recipe for routers, but some additional details so it should not be too difficult to fill in the blanks.
