Cannot connect to brand new R7000

We can connect router to wi-fi but we cannot find the router.  The app keeps saying it cannot find the router and we cannot get any further.  Extremely frustrating for a brand new device.  If we try to connect remotely it gives us an error message even though we have registered it with Netgear.  Help please!!!!!!!!

Re: Cannot connect to brand new R7000

Thanks for the response.  We have a modem only from Spectrum and were trying to connecte a r7000 wi-fi router to it.

Late last night we decided to try connecting directly to the router via an ethernet cable instead of using the app.  For some reason this worked.  It appears the app is the problem.  We ran the app on both an Android and an iPhone and both of them got the same error message that the app could not find the router.  Oh well.  It is resolved.

Re: Cannot connect to brand new R7000

It might help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router. The model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router.

What does this mean?

What are you doing and where does it go wrong?

If you visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

you can feed in your model number and find the documentation for your hardware.

It will also have any firmware for your device.

Indeed. That's why experienced users avoid it. Too many things to get in the way.
