I'm on V1.0.6.54_1.2.3 and it's perfect!

Hi,

I am one of those who do not underand all the complaints around firmware for the R7000. I have had minor problems with a couple of releases, but not anything serious, However, after I got V1.0.6.54_1.2.3 on my router it's been the best experience so far. Throughput is solid and both wireless bands connects rock solid.Smart Connect works like it should and I can leave my router alone most of the time. One question though, the version of the firmware I am running contains Arlo support which I do not need. I did upgrade from a 1.0.6.something that didn't have Arlo support. Is the only difference between the previous 1.0.6 release te Arlo support, or are there other changes? Since V1.0.6.54_1.2.3 seems so good I have a feeling there may be more going on that just Arlo support.

  • As far as I understand V1.0.6.54_1.2.3 is not the version that was pulled. The version pulled was R7000-V1.0.6.40_1.1.90.chk

V1.0.6.54_1.2.3 seems to be the newest beta that has been published. But since the way Netgear names it's firmware updates in more mysterious ways than even the creator of our universe could come up with, it is understandable that you lost track.

    So first:

-Find out if it is true what I say ( it always is.... ;-)

-Then ask yourself if you want to become a beta freak for Netgear ( hahahahahha)

-Then consider that the latest 'officially stable' firmware for R7000 is:

    V1.0.5.70_1.1.91

And then think what you want to do. Use  V1.0.6.54_1.2.3 or V1.0.5.70_1.1.91.

You could try V1.0.5.70_1.1.91 and tell me what you think. If you think V1.0.6.54_1.2.3 is better, I will try that too!

  • Oh, I have read up on this already. Let me rephrase my question. Which version is the newest one considered stable by both community and Netgear since the one I am using is pulled.

Ok thanks. That far back. And you think I can flash it on top of the newer one? Factory reset is okay for me, but any kind of bricking isn't :)

When the router manufacture pulls a FW version you can bet it has problems. Some people either don't realise they have a problem or don't use an option that has a problem.

When turning off WIFI via software or front button on router I EXPECT ALL WIFI and or RF to be TURNED off. That wasn't the case.

If you are happy using it great others had problems with it that are well documented.

Thank you for the info. So which version would you say is the best choice right now? Also, is downgrading to an older version as easy as the upgrade? I have simply flashed the new version on top of the older and it has worked without even a factory reset.

I cannot answer the question as to which is the best. What's best for your needs. This whole topic has been beat to death several dozen times in the past 24 months. I'm not about to reinvent the wheel again, Sorry. You should start reading the post written by members on the that subject and then forum your own opinion.
