Improved latency on 5g wifi band - is it possible to get even better results?
I recenlty found a really good deal on a used Netgear Nighthawk AX12 router and purchased it. I know this is overkill for starlink internet but I was really curious to see if it would make a difference and I have also had some IP/porting issues with my old router.(possibly because of starlink, idk)
After doing a lot of internet speed testing to see if the nighthawk performed any better the results were slightly inconclusive. The speed fluctuations of starlink make it hard to do accurate and consistent testing although it did appear that the nighthawk achieved 50-150mbps faster on average than my old router.
This isn't really anything to be excited about, but what I am excited about is the nighthawk's 5g wifi band.
I decided to test the 5g band for the hell of it, speeds were similar, maybe slightly faster more consistently but still hard to tell.
But the latency however seemed to be pegged right around 35ms, sometimes a little less. Meanwhile the latency on the 2.4ghz band is typically 40-70ms with wild 20ms fluctuations.
It's nothing too crazy but as a gamer who has struggled with their internet connection for the last 5 years this was huge for me. I could immediately tell that thumbnails, etc. were loading faster while web browsing.
My question is: is it possible to get even better latency with a different router? Say 10ghz or higher?
Just thought I would share my experience as I was pleasantly surprised by the improved latency.

How is the AX12 connected to the starlink?
Hitting 35ms latency on starlink is pretty great.
Per their specs, 25-60ms is the baseline so hitting 35, its pretty great.
