Internet connection fails using factory defaults on Orbi RBR860
Direct connection from ISP provided BEC outdoor router to computer ethernet port works fine. BEC 6800RUL uses a POE ethernet connection via power injector indoors near the computer. Ethernet cable from BEC outdoor unit goes into the injector. Injector's ethernet output cable connects to computer or to a router. BEC configuration specifies computer IP address 192.168.1.253 Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.1.254
ISP is VTEL Wireless which serves much of Vermont
Apparently specifying those 3 info bits in computer's setup is sufficient to establish an internet connection. The Orbi with factory configuration seems to have no clue there is internet available at its doorstep and "Smart Setup" tells me there is no cable connected to the Internet Port. I need step by step guidance to help me get the Orbi on track. I've opened 2 "Cases" with support on-line and both times received an email with a phone number to call. With that done they close the case. Phone support begins with news that call volume is heavy but provide no estimate of wait time. I've called several times on different days & times with same results. Hoping the community can help me out, else poor Orbi will be returned to the mother ship despite its good looks.
Thanks

p.s. It might be worth talking to VTEL. They must have lots of customers who connect their own routers.
Entering those same numbers into the Orbi Internet setup page doesn't work?
The Ethernet cable is connected to the WAN (Internet) port on the Orbi (marked with yellow).
One thing that often catches users unaware is that when the Orbi is assigned an IP in the 192.168.1 address space, it will create a LAN using 10.0.0.x. There were hundreds of private address spaces to chose from, and that seems to be what they chose.
Have you tried AP mode with the RBR?
