Is my router junk?

I have a nighthawk ax8 and randomly we lost WiFi the other day. I noticed the gfci outlet the router was plugged into went bad. So I replaced it. Still no WiFi, we called Verizon internet and they said there was a problem, at the street and it will need to be fixed. My ax8 router now won’t put out any WiFi signal or even let me do a factory reset. When I plug the router in the power light lights up orange and that it. No other lights or anything even when I hold the reset button. Is my router fried? Please help! This was not a cheap router!

Which router model? AX8 is a speed, not model!

Did they fix it?

What firmware version do you have on the unknown Netgear device?

A number is more useful than "the latest". There may be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.

If there is one it might also help if you told people the make and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that sits between this router and the Internet. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

Re: Is my router junk?

When just the power comes on and its amber, it tends to indicate either a bootup or firmware issue.

You can try recovering it with tftp or nmrpflash.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10

and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9DLrLQrpaw

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash
https://github.com/jclehner/nmrpflash an issue.
