Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 - can't install firmware
AP Mode? What does "AP" stand for? Sorry if this is a dumb question I'm new to Nighthawk as well and trying to learn more about it. Its being a pain in my butt since the day I bought it..

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 - can't install firmware
AP stands for Access Point. Basically it disables the routing features, so it is merely a box to provide WiFi from an existing router. This mode turns off some features, like port forwarding.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 - can't install firmware
I hate to write on this thread about a different issue but I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction...I just had fios quantum router installed the other day with the Nighthawk r7000 hooked up to the network as well and our devices are SLOW (except the kids computer that has a Netgear wifi adapter) Can someone help with this or help me find the forum for this issue? Thanks in advance!!

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 - can't install firmware
Is the R7000 acting as a router or AP? If both the fios and netgear are configured as routers, that will cause a problem.
If you haven't done so already, reset (erase) the R7000 back to factory defaults and reconfigure manually.
Make sure QoS is off, but WMM is on.
Check your neighborhood for other WiFi signals (The program InSSIDer is good for this). Instead of leaving the WiFi channels at Auto, pick as free a channel as you can, 1,6 and 11 are the best for the 2.4G band, and higher ones above 150 are good for the 5G band.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 - can't install firmware
To be honest I'm not sure how to tell a difference if its acting like a Router or AP.
I have it hooked up as this: The fios router is in the basement hooked up to the phone line that goes up into the kitchen upstairs. The R7000 is hooked up to where its hot in the phone line in the kitchen.
Everyone in the house is connected to the R7000 since its on the mid level where I thought it would boost the WiFi range.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 - can't install firmware
I am not using Kapersky. We have Norton AV. I tried turning Norton off before trying to login to the router and that didn't make a difference. I also looked at ipconfig and it shows that 192.168.1.1 is the Default Gateway (which according to the CenturyLink 2000T configuration is itself, not the R7000).
I want to login to the R7000 and update the firmware. It appears as though CenturyLink configured their C2000T to be the router and modem when they installed it. I assume by default then the R7000 is relegated to being an AP, but I'm in over my head.
I tried keying in 192.168.1.1 with no http or https but that made no difference - same error msg. I know I updated the firmware sometime in 2015 and we switched to CenturyLink around Sept so I'm probably only 1 level back. Is there some way that I can get to the router login page so that I can see the setup (to know what version of firmware I'm on) and update the firmware?

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 - can't install firmware
Log in to C2000t and check attached device list....look for r7000 IP.....use that IP to reach r7000 GUI.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 - can't install firmware
I mentioned in my first post that I had gone into the C2000T config and found that the R7000 was listed as 192.168.0.3. I just tried keying this in with http, https, and without it, with www. and without it, just the numbers... and got the same error msg (err_connection_refused).
Any other thoughts?

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 - can't install firmware
Push reset until Power Led Flashes. Do this with a wired PC connected to LAN port. Disconnect r7000 from c20000t first.
once in go to advanced...set up as AP follow directions
