My R6900 will not work wireless with an old Compaq Presario but works wireless with my Sony Viao and apple products. Can rhe R6900 be configured to work with older laptops? Everything worked well with my old Belkin router.

Re: Nighthawk R6900 won't work with older laptop
Is the R9000 broadcasting in all bands? New kit will connect at 5GHz, old stuff will probably be 2.4GHz
Can the old Compaq Presario see any wifi?
You'll have to tell people a bit more about what is going on if you want informed responses.

If you can, set up a guest user with no security? But that brings its own problems.

Re: Nighthawk R6900 won't work with older laptop
Yes, I had it working wireless on a Belkin54G N router before it went south. The laptop see the wireless network but when I try to connect it says it connects there is a red "?" On the wireless connection. If I connect to the router via cat5 I can connect and get online so the issue is with only the wireless. If I try to repair the connection I get "Windows is unable to find a certificate to log you onto the network". I do not have a certificate on any other units and only use a password on the router.

Re: Nighthawk R6900 won't work with older laptop
The router is set to "WPA2-PSK [AES]". Should it work on "WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2- PSK [AES]" or "WPA/WPA2 Enterprise"? The mode is set to "Up to 600 MPS". Thanks for the come back.

Re: Nighthawk R6900 won't work with older laptop
The manual (page 240) refers to this in the section Troubleshoot WiFi Connectivity.
"Does your WiFi device support the security that you are using for your WiFi network (WPA or WPA2)?"
If you really want to use this combination of hardware, have you tried setting the wifi security to none, and live with the risks?
