With the recent move to home, my partner and I have been relying increasingly on our internet. We've noticed more and more drop-outs from the router that have been making working from home and doing grad school online quite a challenge! The drop-outs are commonly only a minute or so, but when you're leading conference calls or in an online class, that minute can be crucial.
While drop-outs have been less frequent in the past, today has been abhorrent. I've attached a screengrab from NetSpot, which is tracking the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels. Luckily, a direct ethernet cable from the router continues to offer a consistent connection. Set-up information is included below:
- Hardware Version: R7000
- Firmware Version: V1.0.9.88_10.2.88
- Set-Up: Coax from wall (Spectrum) to Netgear CM400 Cable Modem, Coax to R7000. R7000 is currently configured with the Smart Connect option enabled.
Admittedly, I'm not incredibly tech-fluent. I've tried looking through some of the boards and other issues to troubleshoot, but some of it goes over my head... It sounds like there might be firmware issues at fault? I tried to search for a firmware update, but it said there weren't any updates available.
Any recommendations? I would be grateful for insight or suggestions - we're getting pretty frustrated with the router and would love to keep using it (not trying to spend another couple hundred dollars on another router!).

"search" how? "it"?
And your web/forum search for terms like, say:
R7000 firmware
found nothing interesting?
> Firmware Version: V1.0.9.88_10.2.88
Not the latest; probably not the best.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads. (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".) Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want. Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions.

Apologies - I should have specified. I went on the Nighthawk App and used the "Check For Updates" tool. I recalled seeing that a newer firmware was available, which is why I was surprised when it didn't pop up in the results.
I'll follow the instructions you provided this evening to see if it helps. I really appreciate the input.

Re: R7000 Dropping 2.4Ghz Constantly
Many have issues with the R7000.
Many find success using the 1.0.9.42 version of the firmware. You can try that version, factory reset the router, and reinstall it. See how it performs.

Re: R7000 Dropping 2.4Ghz Constantly
So I went ahead and installed the latest firmware (1.0.11.104). We still had an issue with the 2.4Ghz channel, so I tried turning off the Smart Connect feature. Since then, it has worked like a charm (fingers crossed, knocking on wood...).
