I am considering to buy the R7000 AC 1900 Dual Band WiFi and to download the ExpressVPN App. Currently I have my ADSL line linked to the DGND 4000 modem router. Will it be ok, when I link the the DGND as “Modem only” -device to the R7000? Does the R7000 accept ADSL? I am asking, because I have just experienced, that some router support only VDSL.

Thank you for your reply. My ISP is MWEB in South Africa. The connection is via PPPoE.
Before, I tried the Asus R AC68U. It did not connect to the internet. According to the Asus technical support the router does not link to ADSL, only to VDSL
Nevertheless i am going to buy the R7000 and give it a try.

Who is your ISP? How is the DSL connection configured? PPPoA?
PPPoE? Other?

It depends.

Generally, I don't think that it cares about the DSL details.

Not a very detailed description of anything.
As the DGND4000 User Manual and BASIC > Internet page ask, "Does Your
ISP Require a Login?" If so, and you (and your ISP) are using PPPoE (or
PPTP, or L2TP), then an R7000 should be happy enough. If you're using
PPPoA, then I doubt that you can use a separate modem and router.
(Certainly, the R7000 User Manual does not mention PPPoA.)

I looked quickly at the "ASUS RT-AC68U user's manual in English", and
the only reference to "DSL" I found was:
Check the status indicators on the ADSL modem and the wireless
router. If the WAN LED on the wireless router is not ON, check if
all cables are plugged properly.

Re: R7000 with DGND 4000 as modem
Thanks antinode, the WLAN LED was on. I followed already the advice of the Asus specialist to return the router and I will now buy the R7000.
