I updated my R8000/X6 to V1.0.4.74_10.1.80 yesterday.
Now when i go to many websites (e.g this one) I first i get 'site not found' then i refresh the page (F5) and it loads.
I tried firefox, Chrome and Edge... it does not always happen but it happens a lot and it's a new problem since yesterday.
Of course i also had a windows 10 update at the same time so not sure maybe that's the problem too, just checking if anyone else has this problem. I have the same problem on 2 computers in different browsers.

This sounds like a problem I had, Try this:
Go to into routeradmin pages go to advanced home and note the dns entries.
Go to windows control panel and click on ‘Network and sharing centre’
Click ‘change adaptor settings’. DoubleClick the ethernet/wifi adaptor and click properties,
highlight Internet protocol version 4(TCP/IPv4) click properties:
Click ‘use the following DNS server address’ and enter dns numbers in the ‘preferred dns server’ and alternative server boxes.
It seems that Netgear may have somehow screwed up the dns settings as well as removing the remote settings page.
Hope this helps

Anytime there's an issue after a firmware upgrade, the first thing I recommend is a factory reset and reinstall.
also in AP setup: RAXE500->EAX80
1.4gig download/50mbps upload from Xfinity

Re: R8000 - Have to load every page 2x after installing V1.0.4.74_10.1.80
Netgear broke their DNS in the latest firmware. They need to fix it.
Manually setting DNS on clients is not a fix. Rolling back to flawed firmware is also not a fix.

Robjak, Has Netgear even acknowledged they have a DNS Problem with their latest firmware?

Re: R8000 - Have to load every page 2x after installing V1.0.4.74_10.1.80
Hi Robjak
DNS issues are not the only problems with this firmware, the remote setting page is also missing. I posted the dns 'solution' so that people would still be able to open websites, until Netgear issues a correct firmware (hearing pigs revving up for takeoff?)

Re: R8000 - Have to load every page 2x after installing V1.0.4.74_10.1.80
I agree that the solution to change adapter settings on the client is only a work-arround but at least it fixes some annoying glitches in services on my PC. Not even sure i can do this on ALL my devices....
The error I got was indeed DNS related.
The weird thing is that my browser first gives this error, then it often auto-reloads and works. Services like Teams, AWS, OneDrive, etc.. behave a bit erratic as sometimes the connection works and then it stops
Still hoping Netgear will come with a real fix of this apparent bug.
At least better to know that it was indeed a Netgear problem...

For me most of the time it did reload, but sometimes it did not. I rolled back firmware quickly, so i do not know how it would affect the clients on my network. DNS issues can be very bad for alot of apps. My wife works from home and cant have her with issues because i will not hear the end of it. And i cant troubleshoot her issues when i am not there.
For now, i am running a FW that has security flaws. I do not like this. I am not happy.

Re: R8000 - Have to load every page 2x after installing V1.0.4.74_10.1.80
Also have this error, getting DNS_PROBE_POSSIBLE after the firmware upgrade. It will reload okay but this is annoying and can make some logins fail.
I had just gone back to the V6400v2 after putting it in the corner for having other issues on a previous firmware.
Changing the DNS to use Cloudfare is a good workaround but I am waiting for a solution from NetGear.
With WFH and school kids there are 5 laptop/computers and we each use 3-4 browsers! First world problem, I know.

Re: R8000 - Have to load every page 2x after installing V1.0.4.74_10.1.80
I'm having this same issue on the latest firmware for the R8500 Firmware Version 1.0.2.154
Extremely annoying. It effects not only the browser but various apps as well such as Steam, Epic Games Store, etc.
I ended up rolling back to the previous FW version and hope that Netgear gets its ish together.

Re: R8000 - Have to load every page 2x after installing V1.0.4.74_10.1.80
It has been a month and Netgear has not fixed it. What are we supposed to do if they dont fix it.
The latest release was to fix security issues. How important are these security fixes?

Give them a couple of weeks and switch to another vendor who provides better support if solution is still not there. Easy...

Rolling back firmware to a version with security flaws is not a fix. Switching to a new vendor is not a fix. Netgear needs to fix. Its not rocket science.

Re: R8000 - Have to load every page 2x after installing V1.0.4.74_10.1.80
I was happy to see that I'm not the only one having this issue with version V1.0.4.74_10.1.80. I upgraded a little over a month ago from V1.0.4.74_10.1.75. After having to hit refresh/reload on about every 5th web page from a different vendor, I went back to the old version. I waited a week and upgraded again with the same results. I then again went back to . . . 1.75. I've tried this 4 times now so I know it's the router firmware and not my computers. I tried the solution to hard code the DNS into windows. While this works (thank you), it is not a fix. I don't want to force a DNS at the node level but want the router to assign it. I use openDNS and block port 53 to help keep all devices on my network a little safer. The solution works when I unblock port 53.
For now I'm going to run on V1.0.4.74_10.1.75 until a new firmware is supplied.

Netgear doesn't release when updates are coming. Even those of us who might get to try beta firmware don't hear about it until it happens.

I have been contacted to test a fix but I am a business trip and cannot download or flash the fix from engineering. So for those waiting, there may be a fix coming out shortly.
