R8000 drops internet connection but keeps local traffic
R8000 started dropping internet connection randomly, sometimes several times a day. Below is the snapshot of the problem.
1. Modem Hitron CODA-4582U-2A (CODA) is in Bridge Mode
2. Router Netgear R8000 (R8000) connected to CODA on modem port 2
a. Wireless is turned off.
3. Internet traffic is interrupted
a. existing audio and video streams still work and eventually got disconnected.
b. any new web request via browser goes to "This page can't be reached"
c. Can't ping any internet IPs (e.g. yahoo.com)
d. Can ping local network addresses given to devices by router R8000 (192.168.1.1 - 200)
e. Can ping 192.168.0.1 (CODA default IP when not in bridge mode)
- Can't get to CODA interface
d. Can't ping 192.168.100.1 (used to be accessible when router in bridge mode)
- Can't get coda interface
4. Plug PC directly to CODA (in bridge mode)
a. Can access internet
b. Can ping 192.168.0.1 (CODA default IP when not in bridge mode)
- Can't get coda interface
c. Can't ping 192.168.100.1 (used to be accessible when router in bridge mode)
- Can't get coda interface
5. Restart the R8000:
a. Can access internet
b. Can ping 192.168.0.1 (CODA default IP when not in bridge mode)
- Can't get coda interface
c. Can't ping 192.168.100.1 (used to be accessible when router in bridge mode)
- Can't get coda interface
d. Can ping any internet IPs (e.g. yahoo.com)
e. Can ping local network addresses given tod devices by router R8000 (192.168.1.1 - 200)
6. Conclusion:
- R8000 drops internet while allowing traffic locally
- CODA provides the internet access at the time when R8000 drops the internet
- CODA does not provide access to its interface via web browser once in bridge mode neither @ 192.168.100.1 (used to be able) nor @ 192.168.0.1 (it is pingable)

Re: R8000 drops internet connection but keeps local traffic
Is the R8000 getting a public IP address on it's WAN port or a private IP address when the ISP modem is in bridge mode?
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
Does the R8000 Internet LED turn amber when this happens?
What CAT# lan cable are you using between the modem and router? CAT6 is recommended.
Is Access Controls, Armor, Circle or Traffic Meter enabled or have been enabled at any point?

Re: R8000 drops internet connection but keeps local traffic
Internet: Gets Dynamically from ISP
DNS: Gets Dynamically from ISP
I think R8000 Internet LED stays the same. I will check when disconnect happens next time.
Use Router as DHCP Server
Firmware: V1.0.4.84_10.1.84
Cable is CAT6

Just confirming that the R8000 getting a public IP address on it's WAN port or a private IP address when the ISP modem is in bridge mode? Look on the routers Advanced tab page under the Internet section.
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? No Backup file used after the reset.

Re: R8000 drops internet connection but keeps local traffic
It gets IP automatically from ISP. It is public IP.

When I had mine online back in March:
Worked well. Access Controls, Circle and Traffic Meter disabled however.

When it works it works well, but constant random drops of internet are annoying.

Re: R8000 drops internet connection but keeps local traffic
Another item would be to install a laptop cooler under the router. See it where sometimes the router can get warmer than usual and can effect it's operation over time. Heat effects electronics. I keep on under any router I have online 24/7.

Re: R8000 drops internet connection but keeps local traffic
Yes, bringing temperature down is always good idea. However the router has performed well in this setup (with room temperature approx. 65 F or 18 C) for several years. Logs do not reveal anything.

Re: R8000 drops internet connection but keeps local traffic
What all do you have connected to it?
What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? No Backup file used after the reset.
Logs on these things are never detailed enough.
You might look at the system uptime on the routers debug page and keep track of this value along with CPU Usage and Memory Usage. Can help in a minor way.
Might enable IPv6 Auto and see if this helps any.
Let us know if the Internet LED turns Amber if this happens. That's one thing that shows there is a problem on the cable line to the ISP ONT or ONT service that the ONT is being interrupted and for some reason the router is not getting re-connected or re-establishing the connection.

Re: R8000 drops internet connection but keeps local traffic
Wireless is turned off. Internet LED stays white. I tried different CAT6 and CAT7 cables.
