RS200 to replace R7000P

I purchased the R7000P when it first come out. I check the fireware and it says it already has the updated fireware. I check the speed from my phone and the router and it around 1/4 of the speed it should be. I check the wired connection on the pc and the speed is exactly what we pay for.

The R7000p has been a awesome, im just not sure what to replace it with or what model replaced it

Re: RS200 to replace R7000P

what actual speeds are you getting with it? wifi isn't going to hit the same speeds as wired as there's distance, obstructions, interference, and overhead with wifi. Plus there's a difference in speed between the 2 bands.

The question is if the router is the bottle neck or the device you're testing with.

so:

1. what device are you testing on?

2. what band are you testing on?

3. what speeds do you pay for?

4. what speeds are you getting?

5. what site/app/etc are you using to test with?

Sadly. the on-board test for firmware version isn't always reliable.

The Nighthawk app or a web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI) can miss updates, especially when you are a long way behind the latest.

The best way to check is to look at the GUI or the Router Information page in the Nighthawk App and check the firmware version reported there. Then visit the support pages for your device and to look at the library of available updates. There may be a newer version there.

The latest is R7000P-V1.3.3.154_10.1.86. That's what I have.

Feed in your model number and look for firmware for your device.

The release notes should also tell you how to manually update the firmware.

Or read this:

Not sure that I follow how you did the speed test. The Netgear app runs the test between the router and the modem. No wifi involved even though the mobile phone starts it.

True wifi tests will always be slower than a wired test.

As it is, you don’t say enough to tell anything useful about the modem you are using, the speeds you get or those that you pay for. So it is impossible to say of there is a problem of some sort with your R7000P and how it is set up.

The RS200 is certainly a newer router. But it is one of many that may or may not meet your needs better than the older router.

Just another user with time on their hands.

Re: RS200 to replace R7000P

yeah that is not what my fireware is, I was only checking it from the app. Mine currently is V1.3.3.140

looks like I need to try manually updating the fireware

This R7000P is probably 5-6 years old (so not when it was first released)

to eliminate it as a issue I walked with my provider and everything on there end was perfect

I have changing routers always such a pain, or it can be a pain

1. what device are you testing on?  iPhone and from the router speed test---Which Iphone? What router speedtest? The built in one in the nighthawk app? A specific app?

2. what band are you testing on? I assume its 2.4Ghz, my change my phone to 5G----You know what they say about assumptions 🙂 Make sure to test from the 5ghz. 2.4ghz is slow (should still hit 50mbps if close enough)

3. what speeds do you pay for? 50 MBPS, wired speed test is 59.8 Download, 11.3 Upload---thats good. Means you're getting full speeds from the isp.

4. what speeds are you getting? 12.9 Download, 3.2 Upload----Test over 5ghz.

5. what site/app/etc are you using to test with? South Slope (my internet provider speed test)-they have their own speedtest app? didn't know they did. Try the speedtest app

One good thing out of all this, is knowing your speeds. 50mbps isn't that fast and the R7000P can easily max those out. No need to upgrade unless you're needing more coverage and then an older generation AC mesh system would still max out your connection. What modem did south slope provide you or what do you use?
