Should R7000 be in router mode or AP mode?

I have been trying for months to get a router that gives me a proper signal since the other routers I get will drop signals. I am not even that far from the router, I am the floor right above it. I got the R7000 and whenever I try to go into AP mode I get that amber light for the wifi. Meaning I am getting no connection. So should I leave it in router mode? Even though the signal is not that great, or should I try and get it into AP mode because then I will get a better signal? Someone please help me figure out how to set the R7000 to AP mode if switching it to AP mode helps because like I said, I always loose the internet when I switch it to AP mode.

What are you trying to do with the R7000? Wire it into the C7000?
If the C7000 is acting as a modem/router then it is easiest to use the R7000 as a wireless access point. If not you risk the dreaded double-NAT disease.
Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.
This explains some of the other drawbacks.

Remember, when messing around with the mode of the modem and/or router it helps to restart the whole network in the correct order.
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.

Firmware version? And connected it to what, how? Hint: If a device
has multiple Ethernet ports, then "connected to device" is not enough
detail.

What, exactly, is "that amber light for the wifi"? Some LED
indicator or other, or what?
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look for the LED
descriptions, and "Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point". Is that
how you're trying to use this R7000? If not, then what is?

That's your "the router"?
