WN3500RP WiFi extender update

I have received an email stating that my old extender needs a security update.

I cannot find out how to do this.

Would you advise buying a newer model if they are an improvement on my existing one?

With thanks from an 80 year old non- tech savvy geriatric

Re: WN3500RP WiFi extender update

@epags1 try tftp/nmrpflash to fix it.

are you on windows? if so, follow this guide

https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP

just make sure you enable tftp

and here's a video walk through.

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash

if that doesn't work, start your own thread and we can work on fixing it.

Re: WN3500RP WiFi extender update

the wn3500rp is a bit older of an extender but if its still working and hitting the speeds you need, you don't NEED to replace it.

Most firmware updates don't add features at this point but fix security issues.

The manual goes over how to manually update firmware.

You can find the firmware and manual here:

https://www.netgear.com/support/product/WN3500RP.aspx

Check which version you're on before updating to ensure you actually behind. Sometimes those emails are auto sent out and people aren't actually behind.

Re: WN3500RP WiFi extender update

Just tried to update to the latest firmware version and bricked the extender.  Don't do it if it is working.

Yes, I tried to reset to factory but that doesn't work either.

Sigh
