External Hard Drive Not Recognized by RAX20

I just got an RAX20 (3-15-2021) and tried hooking up a Western Digital EasyStore 2TB external hd through the 3.0 USB port. ReadySHARE didn't recognize it. I went into EasyShare and tried some suggestions to get it to recognize the drive that I found through web searching but none worked. It works with my laptop so I knew it wasn't the drive. After 3 hours of web searching I finally found that the WD EasyStore is not on the compatibility list and found a couple forums that said it wasn't compatible with the RAX series. I found the NetGear compatibility list to see what I should get, but the list is from April 2020 and all the listed hard drives are discontinued products. All I'm looking for is to know if anyone's using an external storage device connected through the 3.0 USB port, and if so what is it so I can buy that one. Looking for 2TB, but at this point I'll go bigger if someone has one they know works. Thanks!

   What's true?

   Firmware version?

   ReadySHARE?

Think, for a moment, about how little useful information that
non-description conveys to the non-psychics in your audience.

   Thanks for the helpful links.

What's the file system on the external device?  Partitioning?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for a
topic like "USB Storage Device Requirements".

Re: External Hard Drive Not Recognized by RAX20

Hey Mr Guru, thanks for the response. I'm guessing from the tone of your response that someone's having a case of the Monday's. 🙂 I totally get that. With everything going on in the world we all feel stressed to some degree. Totally understandable. I'm guessing you probably reread this and wish you could take it back when you read it with a gentler eye when the storm died down for you. Like the "Thanks for the link" when I didn't actualy send one. I'm sure you wish you had responded with something like, "Could you send a link?" I'll tell you what, you don't have to apologize for the tone of the questions you respnded with, I know you only meant to help me. I understand the fullfilment you get from helping another human being who doesn't have the same knowledge that I'm sure you have. That right there says a lot about your character. Thank you. I appreciate you. I'll let you rewrite your response, restating the questions in a kinder way, like I'm sure you wish you had originally. I don't feel an apology is necessary, but if you'd like to go on record just to clear your own guilt or cleanse your soul for your own benefit, well then, go ahead. I'll let you decide what's best for you. Thank you again for you kindness in responding. I wish everyone had the same flame of goodness insie them as you do. The world would definitely be a better place. Oh, and by the way, the RAX20 isn't an option from the product dropdown in the header of the question form and you have to choose something. Since it's not a free text field, I had to pick the closest thing. If you have any ability to get that added it would be greatly appreciated. If that falls outside of your balliwick, no troubles, I'll send a note to the company. Thanks again for all of your help. Oh, and the manual only tells me to check the compatibility chart on the NetGear site for a hard drive. The NetGear compatibility site doesn't even list the RAX20, like the forum header dropdown field. The closest was the RAX80, so I used that. But the list of hd's are so old, all of the models they list have been discontinued. It says the WD Passport will work but I just wanted to see if anyone else has one that was plug and play for them. I hate bugging people like you with your depth of knowledge, to help the people like me who don't understand how to navigate in this environment. So I hoped to just get a simple, tried and true solution and just leave you folks to do the more important work I'm sure I'm keeping you from. Again, thank you for your time and understanding. You are a lifesaver!

When I look at the RAX20 User Manual, under "USB device
requirements", I see a list, "The router supports the following file
system types [...]", which I thought might be relevant to a previous
question:
