I have a brand new AX6 router. I am trying to connect it to a Satellite modem, without success
Hello,
I am trying to connect this new wifi router to my satellite internet modem. When I connect the cable to the new router and the internet modem and restart both, I am not connected to the internet.
I am doing this on a reasonably new windows 11 computer. I have also tried to restart the whole mess (computer, mode, and router without success).
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

What actual satellite modem is it?

It is an older Viasat modem. Several years old. I can probably find the actual details, but it requires crawling under the desk. Not easy to do. I will do that if you need very specific details.

Re: I have a brand new AX6 router. I am trying to connect it to a Satellite modem, without success
most of those satellites gateways are modem/router combo devices and it causes a double nat.
A double nat happens when you cascade more than 1 router.

Fixes? There’s 3 options but only use 1.
1. Put the modem/gateway in modem only/pass through mode. This disables its routing functions.
2. Leave the modem/gateway in router mode but put the Netgears IP address into its DMZ. This forwards the data to the netgear. You can either leave the modem/gateway’s wireless enabled or disabled. Just make sure its using a different wifi channel to prevent interference
3. Put the Netgear into access point mode. This disables its routing functions. Wifi/ethernet still works but it does disable some features.
