Terrible AX wifi speeds (ax12) with AX200 laptop

1st off, I'm a 10 year systems admin, I have some knowledge here (not being cocky)

Laptop- Zenbook Duo Pro (ax200)
RAX120 router
XS505M 10Gbe switch
Z230 i7 16gb with Asus 10gbe network card and thunderbolt raid array

The desktop is connected to the switch (10Gbe), switch connected to mutilgig (5gb). I also have SSD connected in the USB 3.0 for further testing

I've updated drivers on all systems for their network cards
Verified all connections are at the correct speeds. Wifi is around 1.0Gbs to 1.7Gbs

My issue here is that my wifi speeds are terrible. I'm getting close to 50MBs  when testing transfer speeds with iperf3 and just about the same with the SSD in the USB

-I've disabled QOS (WMM) but it made it so my wifi connection was 54MBs for a connection

-Iv disabled AX and at one point I got speeds to 145MBs but did a factory reset and reconfigured the router and now I'm back down to 50MBs

-I've factory reset multiple times, power cycled all hardware including fiber box.

Any ideas?

aonavy1,

Thanks for taking the time to post. Would you mind providing us with the firmware version your router is currently on.

Re: Terrible AX wifi speeds (ax12) with AX200 laptop

for me i am having a different problem

the speed is good

but after 2 hours the actual net speed drop from 100 mb to 15mb or lower

and resetting either the wifi card or router solve it for 2 hours then i have to repeat again

abogrhen,

Please try disabling the smart connect feature if you have it enabled.

It's never been on. I did however get some decent speeds (175MBs) changing the channel to 100 using HT160. I think should be closer to 200-225MBs while connected to 2.4ghz but this work until another firmware comesabout.

yeah i think there is a communication problem between rax120 and ax200

i hope both sides Intel - Netgear can look into it

Re: Terrible AX wifi speeds (ax12) with AX200 laptop

I highly doubt you will get 200+ MB/s with any current router when paired with the AX200. I get around 140-144 MB/s on both ac  mode and ax mode with the AX200, and with ax mode sometimes it will hit 160-170 MB/s but never sustained regardless of the RAX120 or RAX80. Similar results with others who tested on an Asus AX11000 which pretty much uses the same Broadcom chipset as the RAX80 plus an extra 5Ghz radio like the RAX200 has.

AX wont give you more than like a 10-20% realworld boost over ax on 5Ghz in raw speeds. Main advantage of AX over AC is performance in dense WIFi environments. On 2.4Ghz AX you can actually get 2x the performance when compared to 2.4Ghz N though.

Re: Terrible AX wifi speeds (ax12) with AX200 laptop

On 2.4 Ghz you definately wont hit anywhere near even 100 MB/s. I hope you aren't confusing MB/s (Megabytes) with Mb/s (Megabits). 1 MB = 8 Mb, in networking Mb is the more common notation.
