Wifi in large house /garden - rax200, AX8, orbi, ...

Hi,

I have today Nighthawk R7000.

I want to deploy wifi in my large house and in garden.

I have already a gigibit fiber (with a router) and behind a firewall.

The firewall is the entry point in house.

So I don't need a router (not mandatory).

What should I do ?

- Use RAX200 alone

- Use RAX200 with Orbi or AX8 ?
- Just use 1 or several Orbi

- Just use AX8

or ?

Best regards.

Xavier

  • Saying you have a large house doesn't tell us much.

    What size house?

What material is the house? brick, concrete, plaster lathe, foil lined insulation, adobe all do great jobs of blocking signals.

How far is your garden away?

The AX spec didn't add much for distance to the specs. What I mean is the coverage is roughly the same (a little better but not huge) but it has better capacity for running multiple devices concurrently. so you're not going to get a whole lot more range going from the R7000 to the RAX200. A mesh system is nice as it allows you to add satellites as needed to expand your range and it does it all with seamless integration.

      Hi,

The house is made with hollow block.

      The size is around 15 m x 10 with 2 levels.

The garden is aroud. Up to 10 meters around.

I agree satellites could be the answer.
So do yI need to take wifi 6 router and orbi or ax8 ?
Or directly several ax8 or orbi ?

Hollow cinder block? aka concrete/cement block? It does a great job of blocking wifi. Even if you go mesh, many have reported issues because the material blocks the wifi backhaul. This'll be the same with wireless AX as well.

You probably going to need to play around a little to figure out which system is right for you. I can't say which is going to work the best as I'm not at your location to test/setup.
