NIGHTHAWK RS700
I am looking at how to connect a Nighthawk RS700 WiFi 7 router to my home broadband. My ISP is BT and I have a Home Hub 2 router which I propose to use as a modem or Access Point. I would appreciate any guidance on whether I need to change any settings in the Home Hub 2 router or would it be best to purchase a Netgear WiFi AP and, if so, which model would be compatible with the RS700 router?
Appreciate any comments…….

Re: NIGHTHAWK RS700
Modem Combo Units:
Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.

Try option #2 first...

Thank you for a most comprehensive response.
Firstly, I should have said that my ISP’s modem/router is a BT Smart Hub 2 and not a BT Home Hub 2.
Having reviewed the various options you have provided, I always believe in the simplest solution being the best (Occams Razor). Unfortunately, the BT Smart Hub 2 does not appear to have a bridge mode, although it is possible to turn off WiFi mode.
In your opinion, would disabling WiFi mode be sufficient to allow the Nighthawk RS700 to operate as fully as it ideally should?

Thank you for your comments.
My ISP’s modem/router does not have bridge mode. However, it is possible to turn off WiFi which may have the desired result.
