How did you try to downgrade the RBR?
Using a wired PC and web browser and downgrading the RBR using the downloaded FW file from prior version should have worked long enough for you to get the RBS re-connected, then manually update them, then the RBR lastly.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.
You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:
Orbi - NETGEAR Communities
You might like to search there for messages related to your problem.
I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.
In the meantime you could visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
Check for various troubleshooting tips.
You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

Re: rbre960 firmware update fails salettiles update
Hello atiq020,
Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!
I understand that you are not able to SYNC your RBRE960 to your satellites due to a firmware mismatch. Please connect your PC to your satellite and then manually upgrade your satellites.
Please navigate to the link below for instructions on manually upgrading your satellite:

Please keep me informed of the progress of this issue!
Best,
Kevin

Re: rbre960 firmware update fails salettiles update
The check only performs a check to see whats out there against what is on your system. This is only a check, no FW is being applied at this point. If you do use the Auto Update or FW check then select the Update ALL button, the update system should then apply any FW updates to the RBS first then the RBR lastly. At least theoretically.
I recommend that you disable the FW auto update feature on the RBR. Then check here in the forums or on NGs download site for any updates to your Orbi system. Then manaully update your RBS first then the RBR lastly.
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
