Can't change IP address for my RBR850..?

So my problem is that my Orbi RBR850 is only giving me speeds of 8/9mbps second, but I've come accross this solution to change my routers IP so that it does not conflict with my modem. However, when I log into orbilogin.net to do that, I'm not able to select the "internet" tab which I've read is the place to make that update, as it's grayed out and not clickable.

Would anyone be able to help me with this or point me in the right direction? It's been a long struggle to get this mesh system working proporly with my ATT Fiber service and hopefully this is the final step. Thanks in advance.

Re: Can't change IP address for my RBR850..?

Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Orbi AX (WiFi 6) products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Orbi AX and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this "general Orbi" forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Thank you.

What is your (unspecified) "my modem"?  Maker?  Model number?  Some
modem+router or other?  What "conflict" are you trying to resolve?

> [...] I'm not able to select the "internet" tab [...] as it's grayed

Is your RBR850 configured as a wireless access point?  That would
explain the grayed-out Internet settings.  It would also make some sense
if your RBR850 is connected to some other router.

      https://kb.netgear.com/26765

In that case, your external/public IP address would be controlled by
your actual router ("my modem") and your ISP.  But it's not obvious that
that would affect your "speeds of 8/9mbps second", which you measured
how, exactly?

As is often the case, you might get further if you put more effort
into describing the actual problem which you are trying to solve, and
less into asking how to implement some particular "solution" ("change my
routers IP [address]"), which may have little or nothing to do with your
actual problem.

Thanks for replying, see my replies below questions...

Modem: NBS AT&T BGW-320 500, set to IP Passthough with Wifi off.
Conflict was described in the link I posted, again here

Thanks, yes it is in AP mode. Would router mode unlock those setting or do I need to directly connect via ethernet cable?

Its connect to the NBS AT&T BGW-320 500. But wouldn't the IP Passthrough mode negate it as acting as a router? That was my understanding but could be very wrong.

- - -

But it's not obvious that that would affect your "speeds of 8/9mbps second", which you measured

Speeds meaused via Google's Internet Speed Test

Based on that same link I shared, again here, the problem I'm having was solved in that post. Hence, my post is was directed at acheiving that specific solution. Heres some more effort though... Trying to solve for slow speeds of 8/9mbps on the wifi via my Orbi RBR850 which is connected to my NBS AT&T BGW-320-500, which is set to IP Passthough with Wifi off. Speeds coming into my NBS AT&T BGW-320-500 are 900/1000mbps.

Re: Can't change IP address for my RBR850..?

IP Pass thru on the ISP modem is not needed nor recommended if you have the Orbi RBR in AP mode. If your in AP mode then there is no firewall present if your using IP pass thru on the modem. You can change the Orbi to router mode then continue to use IP Pass thru. Then you can also change the RBR IP addressing scheme as well.

AP mode you can use either Dynamic IP addressing which the RBR in AP mode will get an IP address from the ISP Modem, OR, set a Static IP address while in AP mode ON the RBR, to some address that is outside of the ISP modems DHCP IP address pool, not with in the pool.

Right.  You want (exactly) one NAT router.  Without one, aside from
the other problems, connecting multiple client devices is tough if your
ISP gives you only one external/public IP address.

It might be helpful to reveal some actual IP addresses of your
various gizmos, so that we can better see how this stuff is configured.

If you're worried about revealing secrets (like, say, a public IP
address), then the top half of the address, "a.b" out of "a.b.c.d",
would satisfy most of my curiosity.  (You can also plug an address into
the form at: https://whois.arin.net/ , and see if it is a public or
private address.  There's no reason to hide a private address.)

Thanks for the quick reply, see mine below...

Gotcha, thanks for this info. I've changed my Orbi router mode and kept my ISP modem in IP Pass thru.

Then you can also change the RBR IP addressing scheme as well.

So this is where I need help I think... Is there a recommended way to do the above and how is that done? Since putting the Orbi in router mode I can now get into the internet settings (see attached). I have not changed anythign there yet.

Thanks again.

Re: Can't change IP address for my RBR850..?

For that, WAN side that IP address comes from the ISP modem. You can change what the RBR gets from the ISP modem there. I'ts best to leave this section Dynamic...

Look at the Advanced Tab/Home and look at the Internet secion on the right side of this page, what IP address is listed here? You may see a ##.##.###.### listed here or maybe a 192, or 172 or a 10 IP address here.

Not sure I follow this... How do I change what the RBR gets from the ISP? Is that under the WAN setup tab? Or WAN prefence button?
Labeled screen shots attached to show where I'm looking.

The IP address in the Internet Port section is a 192 one.

You can change that ON the ISP modems web page.

Are you looking to change the 192. address to something different on the WAN side or you wanting to change the IP address of the LAN side. These are different sections.

Re: Can't change IP address for my RBR850..?

No, it really doesn't.  If your "the ISP modem" is acting as a simple
modem, then your router's WAN/Internet IP address comes _through_ the
modem, _from_ the ISP.  You have no real control over the
external/public address which your ISP provides.

In some cases, if you change the MAC address of your modem, or the
MAC address of the WAN/Internet interface of your router, then you
_might_ persude the ISP to grant a different address, but you can't
_force_ your ISP to do anything.

   Still true.

Any idea where that would that be on the modem web page? I'm not seeing anything like that and still don't speciffily understand what I would be changing and to what?

I'm not sure. Whatever would get my Orbi to put out the 1gbps speeds (or close too) that is coming into my ISP gateway.

Thanks for trying to help, I just don't understand all this enough to know what I should be changing or what some of these things mean. I'm also going to take your orginal suggetion and ask on the Orbi WIFI 6 group. Maybe someone with my same setup can tell me specifilly what they did and changed to get their system working correctly.

Which IP address' would help, modem and router?
The modem starts with 192.168
and the Orbi starts with 10.0

Re: Can't change IP address for my RBR850..?

So the 10 that the Orbi uses on the LAN side is due to that the modems router is using 192.168.1.1 which is also the default address for NG routers. So NG routers will change to someting else to avoid this conflict, i.e. 10 something if they detect the upstream router has same address on the LAN side.

10. will work as a LAN side IP address for your home devices. If not, you can change the ISP modems IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1, then you can change the IP address on the Orbi system back to 192.168.1.1 if thats what you prefer to use. I prefer to use 192.168.0.1 for my needs.

That's a modem+router, not a simple modem.  Whatever "set to IP
Passthough" means, if you actually did it, then it apparently does not
disable the router in that device.

> and the Orbi starts with 10.0

That's what a Netgear router does when it's connected to another
router (which already uses the "192.168.1.*" subnet).

Those are both private address subnets.

> [...] There's no reason to hide a private address.)

   Still true.

With your "The modem" acting as a modem+router, it would make sense
to configure the Orbi as a WAP.
