Clients do not connect to Sattelites, but to Router

Hi all,

I have a AX1800 / RBR 353 Router + 2 Satellites. All connected through a wired backhaul.

All most of my wifi clients won't connect to the nearest satellite, but to the far-away router. After a reboot of the orbi system, I see that most clients would initially connect to the nearest satellite, but then switch back to the router after a few hours.

That doesn't make any sese and some devices are clearly suffering from a bad connection. Any ideas how to solve that?

many thanks

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

It's up to devices to pick and choose where they connect too. Sometimes turning OFF the wifi radio on the device for 5 seconds then back ON helps the device connect to the nearest signal.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Also try turning down the power output of the RBRs wifi radios from 100% to 50% and see if this changes anything. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Re: Clients do not connect to Sattelites, but to Router

HI Furry, thank you...

The firmware on the router shows V4.4.0.10_2.10.63

Sattelites V4.4.0.10

Modem is a Zyxel from my ISP

My house is 2,100 sq ft over two stories.

I actually need the router to be on 100% to make it to the garage.

Then my two sats are on the other end of the house.

Every time I reboot the router or the clients, they'd connect to the neares sats. But after hours they switch to the router for no reason. I have that with all my smart home devices (Eufy cameras, power plugs, etc.). That router seems to be a magnet for all of them. Only my iPhone would roam to wherever I go in the house...

Any ideas how I can tweak the settings? - otherwise there is no point in having satellites... 😞

Need to try turning down the power on the RBR.

If you need more signal in the garage, you may need something in the garage area or nearer to the garage...
