There is no outdoor rated satellite from Netgear compatible with the RBKE963. (Satellite being an access point that broadcasts the same WiFi SSID as the rest of the system and where device roam seamlessly from one unit to another. One (partial) solution is to mount an indoor 960 satellite in a window or against an exterior wall so that about half of the WiFi signal goes "outside". A second solution is to mount an indoor rated satellite inside a weatherproof box. There were many posts some time ago discussing whether the RBS50Y was "really weatherproof", and one commercial installer from Florida described his practice of using weatherproof boxes instead.
There are many outdoor rated access points from other companies. They are either:
- Normal Access Points which require an Ethernet connection to the primary network, or
- Range Extenders which connect to the primary network using WiFi.
Either of these can be set to broadcast any WiFi SSID that you want. They can even duplicate the primary system WiFi SSID.
If the goal is primarily to connect devices that are outdoors and do not get a strong enough signal from the indoor system, then this sort of product may satisfy the need. "Things that don't move", such as security cameras, HVAC systems, swimming pool controllers, gate controllers, etc. etc. have no need to roam.
