NOTE: NG has stated that downgrading firmware from v4 back to v3 is NOT supported. So I recommend you consider weather or not upgrading is needed for your system. If it works, don't fix it.
Let us know how it works for you...

I think i'll wait for more feedback on this firmware before I update since you're not able to downgrade.

So this is the long awaited parental controls feature (to replace Circle) for the Orbi AX? What is unclear is is this a FREE feature on the router or do we have to pay a subscription to use it?
Might check on this to see if it offers any additional information.

More than likely this service maybe fee based. Ask about this over in the Smart parental control forum:https://community.netgear.com/t5/NETGEAR-Smart-Home-Parental/bd-p/en-home-smart-parental-controls
Good Luck.

I upgraded to this firmware. Wired Satellites will be shown as disconnected after the Router's upgrade.
The problem is in the Router that can't recognize the wired satellites. Wired satellites can be added, but after restart they get permanently disconnected.
Factory resetting the satellites did not help.
Ok so I took the plunge today.
Downloaded v4 FW files.Orbi RBK853 system in AP Mode. 50% power. Channel 1 and 40.
Will be testing router mode this weekend at 100% power.
Manually updated the RBS first then RBR lastly using MS Edge on wired Windows 10x64.
Powered OFF the RBS then RBR for 30seconds or longer.
Powered ON the RBR and let it come back to ready. I noticed that the front LED seem to blink longer than expected though I had internet services already after my wired PC connected to the RBR. Logging in to the RBRs web page showed Internet was GOOD. Front LED turned OFF.
Powered on 1 RBS at a time. RBS seems to take a bit long to get synced up Wirelessly.
I noticed that a Out Of Sync message was seen on the RBRs web page:
So I gave the RBS a few more minutes and eventually that status changed to GOOD on the RBRs web page.
Orbi app:
I turned OFF the RBS and went to dinner and came back.
Powered ON the RBS again one at a time and let them wirelessy sync succesfully.
Plug in the ethernet cable into both and connected the other end to the RBR, one at a time.
The status one the RBRs web page soon turned from 5G to Wired:
Orbi app:
This was about 30 minutes ago
I connected a Mac Book Pro via ethernet to each RBS and ran a speed test successfully.
Typed this post while leaving the RBS online and connected via Ethernet and there still working on Ethernet backhaul in AP Mode.
I'll change this over tomorrow to router mode and see what happens.

I installed this on my RBK853 devices last night.
It was harder than it has been previously, the impression I get is some new bugs have been added in addition to the obvious new WiFi bugs and, well, the fact this was meant to enable SPC and hasn't seems like the Netgear developers are trying (and failing) to make a bad joke.
I'm not sure yet how many devices are dropping and re-connecting but I know for sure that one of my 2.4Ghz devices is.
I've disabled AX on the 2.4Ghz band and I don't think the re-connect is still happening. I also have the impression (not certain and haven't been able to identify any pattern yet) that devices are favouring the router above the Satelites.
I will see how things go today but if things don't go well enough I may be forced to box up the Orbis for 6 months and maybe see how things are then.
The problem with that is then I need to decide what to change to, go to my RBK50 + RBS40 and see how that is going these days or go back to my ASUS GT-AX11000 + 2 x ZenWiFi XT8 with limited security options and non existent parental controls ...
The concept of pay for comprehensive security and partental control services is a good vision but without a solid stable system, both underlying operating system and products that vision will utimately fail and Netgear doesn't seem to be able to provide either.
One posted mentioned on the 7 series update thread that they contacted NG support about there TV no longer connecting to the system after last FW Update, NG said there seems to be problem in the RBS FW and needs to be fixed. They turned OFF the RBS and the TV now connects...wondering if this goes for the 8 series RBS...
FYI, we can't downgrade from v4 to v3:

SPC just turned on this morning for me. It now shows up on my orbi app.
Unforunately, you have to pay for every aspect of it....yet linksys velop gives you spc for free... disappointed
will continue to use OpenDNS.

Updated and our 3rd RBS seems to be attempting to connect to the RBR instead of the other RBS unit resulting in "poor" connection although the light on the 3rd RBS occasionally is showing solid blue. Already tried a 30s restart thus far.
Are you doing this with this one RBS in the same room or near the RBR with the other RBS turned OFF?
Did you reset the RBS then re-sync after removing it from the RBRs web page?

RBS is in same location it was prior to the update, just tried a reset and re-pair, still showing as connecting to the RBR with backhaul status as "poor."

This udpated firmware busted my satellite. After the update I could not for the life of me get my satellite to get or stay connected to the router. I moved it closer to the router, then I hardwired them together, and they still would not sync/connect. I factory reset the satillite and they did not work either. I was using the web interface to do the update. When that didn't work I tried using the iPhone app and that could not connect either.
In the web interface, I removed the satellite, which constantly appeared offline, then I tried to re-add it numerous times. This was one of the times I regret updating, when I should have left it alone. Obviously no success removing and re-adding the satillete.
Since I needed my internet to be back up before the next working day, I just pulled out the factory box, and put the Orbi in them to be returned the next day. I put my older system in to get the internet running again. Waste of time and $$ for sure, my bad to re-trusting Netgear.
On a side note - I didn't like how it was a single SSID for every band. I used the guest network for a second SSID, but my firewall doesn't monitor this particular guest band since it's not technically going through the firewall and network. I want to monitor everything through all bands. Oh well, lessons learned.
Good Luck

You may remember my issue that was never fixed in 1 year (Wired Backhaul Satellite Gust Network with no internet - DNS issue probably)
I got a mail from the support NG last week telling me that it was fixed and tested in v4.6.3.9
I was wondering (when I read a few posts here with several issues) if I really should upgrade or not....
Thanks for your help !

I can confirm this fixed the constant DNS problems I was having with the v3 firmware.
Overall for my deployment (1 RBR 1 RBS) things have generally been stable and it is a much improved experience.
Thank you for letting us know. Glad its working for you.
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Enjoy.
