Orbi 850 throttles download speed

Hi All,

i have RBK850 and 1 RBS850. I am based in Australia and have NBN HFC. I am currently on a 1gig download/40mbps upload connection. Up until few weeks ago i was getting download speeds of 800+ but now suddenly its dropped to 90+. The upload speed hasn't changed and has been consistent. i am getting 38+. I get the full gig connection straight from the NBN modem(wired) to my pc, however both wired and wireless through the router only gives me 90+.  I bought this only 6 months ago and I called Netgear support but they don't want to support me. They want me to pay $300 to even take this further. Why is that so ? i  bought a product that was performing as per its stated specifications and stopped working within its warranty period of 2 years.  I am really tearing my hair out.

<> i am on the firmware version V4.6.3.16_2.0.51.

<> I have tried a hard reset

<> i have tried unchecking the 'Enable 20/40 Coexistenc' + ' WMM....'

<> i have tried setting the CTS/RTS threshold to 2346

<> The WAN shows 100m/full, however the same Cat6 cable straight from the NBN modem gives me 800+mbps to my pc

As i said .. up till few weeks ago it was working fine.

Can someone please help me ?

Re: Orbi 850 throttles download speed

have you checked your port statistics to see if its connecting at gigabit speeds?

It is unusual that you would suddenly see a difference.  There are some diagnostics steps in this community FAQ so we can determine if you have Double NAT, whether it affects both wired and wireless clients of your Orbi, etc.  (your post already clarifies these). Please look at: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-WiFi-6-AX-and-WiFi-6E-AXE/Community-FAQ-My-Orbi-speeds-are-slo...

If orbilogin.com's Advanced / Internet Port / Show Statistics says your WAN port is 100m/Full instead of 1000M/Full then we need to focus on fixing that.  Do try a different cable and fiddling with things (even though the same cable works from modem->PC).  Maybe your Orbi's WAN network jack has a hardware problem, which would suck.

Re: Orbi 850 throttles download speed

Thanks @Mikey94025 . Yes it does say that 100 .. instead of 1000. I tried a different cable but same issue. Should i go back to Netgear support and tell them that ?? If its an issue with the port and Netgear's claimed warranty is 2 years.. do i still have to pay to talk to support ?? I bought this Router around 6 months ago.

Also a quick question.. with this forum.. is it possible to interact straight from emails or do i have to login each time to the forum ?

Re: Orbi 850 throttles download speed

You might contact NG support and ask about RMA options.
IF the RBR is not connecting to the host modem at 1000Mpbs and your PC is, and you've swap different LAN cables, CAT6, then the RBR maybe faulty.

Try a different router in place of the RBR to see if it also connects at 1000Mpbs.

Not sure how well it'd work but if you try a lan--wan loopback test to check the port, you might be able to see what speeds its getting on its wan port through the statistics page.

I would talk to Netgear and try to get your product replaced under warranty if your hardware is defective (due to the network port).  This is not the same as a tech support request, which is only given for the first 90 days.

This seems to be how to request warranty replacement (RMA): https://kb.netgear.com/1162/How-can-I-get-a-Return-Material-Authorization

However, before doing so verify how long your product's warranty is.  There is a tool here: https://kb.netgear.com/12171/Is-my-NETGEAR-product-under-warranty.  According to this page, the RBR850 warranty is one year (not 2 years), but you're still okay if you bought it 6 months ago: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rbr850.aspx#ProductWarranty_CommonTopics.  You may also consider returning to your original place of purchase, if that is also an option provided by them (some vendors like Costco are very good with that).

No. You cannot 'reply' to the email.  Click on the Link that is included in the email, which takes you to the web site, where you log in.

Being somewhat lazy, I store this web site credentials in my web browser to speed up the login process.

There may be a difference between Netgear's published warranty and consumer protection guarantees.  For example, the EU has this rule:
