Orbi 9 series problem

Hello, we have a 3-storey house and I bought the Netgear Orbi 964.

I have a router in the basement (plugged in with cable) and 2 satellites on the first floor and 1 satellite on the 2nd floor.

The house is approximately 100 m2 per floor on the ground floor.

I have a 1000 Mbit fiber line.

I only get 150 Mbit out of the router? The internet is very unstable (it was stable with my old router)

I am unable to update the router, see image below.

In addition, the router in the basement connects to the satellite on the second floor (not first floor), and from there to the first floor, even though the router and satellite on the first and second floors are directly above each other, see below.

Hope you can help.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

What modem/gateway, if there is one, sits between the router and the Internet?

Why not? What happens when you try? The image offers no clues on that front.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Orbi - NETGEAR Communities

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

Re: Orbi 9 series problem

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 ir 6A STP is recommended.

Are you speed testing with a wired PC or wireless?

What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

For that size of home, having 3 RBS deployed maybe too much. You might try just the RBR and 1 RBS.

Too Much Wifi: https://youtu.be/UR0viMLISz4

Basement is not a recommended location for the RBR. Main or 2nd level is recommended.

Do you have the IoT and separate 6ghz radio enabled?

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Re: Orbi 9 series problem

Hi and thank you for the reply.

I am not sure what modem sits between, but it’s delivered by the same company that provide internet and tv solution. So without it I don’t think I will get any internet. I have turned it into bridge mode sonit doesn’t steal any capacity.

There was a maximum of 1 attached so I didn’t manage to add the error of the update, in figure below. The Orbit system has not been updated for months and could potenitally cause some issues.

I have only tried the standard solutions that Netgear provide, but did not help anything.

The support and FAQ does unfortunately not state why the wifi signal is so poor, even though our home is only made out wood (not much concrete except outer parts of foundation or metal).

I just wanted the absolute best and thought that the most expensive mesh system from Netgear would be good, but my previous was better both regarding speed and stability.

Re: Orbi 9 series problem

Please give feedback to the question presented so we can get a better idea of the configuration and situation.

To find the Fw version please user a wired PC or wireless laptop and connect to the RBRs web page.
