Orbi RBK752 - Connecting to internet with Satellite via Ethernet connection

Hello All,

Issue: My ISP modem is downstairs, and I want to hook up my PC with ethernet which is upstairs. Yes, I can run a cable, but I am trying to find the quickest and easiest way without having to punch holes in the wall.

I am wondering if it is possible to configure the Orbi to do this:

Orbi Router > Connect via WAN > To ISP Modem

Orbi Satellite > Connect via Wifi > To Orbi Router

...Place Orbi Satellite upstair near PC....

PC > Connect via ethernet > to Orbi Satellite

Would this work? And would the connection be almost like if my PC was connected directly to my ISP modem?

Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Orbi AX (WiFi 6) products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Orbi AX and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this "general Orbi" forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Yes.

What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Please use this link to the main forum product list to review and choose where to make your posts.

Thank you

Re: Orbi RBK752 - Connecting to internet with Satellite via Ethernet connection

You can indeed go: ISP modem---->Orbi router----wireless---->orbi satellite---->wired device.

I've done it numerous times.

A couple things to keep in mind.

  •  the ISP modem, you didn't give us what model it is. If its a modem/router combo device, it caues a double nat. A double nat happens when you cascade more than 1 router. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
Fixes? There’s 3 options but only use 1 if you're in a double nat. If you're not, ignore this section.
         1. Put the modem/gateway in modem only/pass through mode. This disables its routing functions.
         2. Leave the modem/gateway in router mode but put the Netgears IP address into its DMZ. This forwards the data to the netgear. You can either leave the modem/gateway’s wireless enabled or disabled. Just make sure its using a different wifi channel to prevent interference
         3. Put the Netgear into access point mode. This disables its routing functions. Wifi/ethernet still works but it does disable some features.
    https://kb.netgear.com/26765/Which-features-are-disabled-on-my-NETGEAR-router-when-it-is-set-to-AP-M...
  • Connection between router----satellite. You ask if those speeds will be the same as wired. A lot of factors influence the router----satellite connection. Distance/obstruction/interference/even what your floors/walls are made of. So its tough to tell you exactly what connection you'll have between router----satellite. Will it be as good as wired? potentially?
