RBR850 can't handle Steam game RUST browing servers?

Hi, my son plays the Steam game called Rust, and when that game starts browsing servers, it close to kills the network for 2-5 minuttes. When I say kill, then there's still ethernet connections and wifi etc., but the internet connection is stalled, probably due to the amount of incoming requests from the game checking servers status.

I've found other threads, where changes can be made to Steam it self, not to scan so many servers at once when browsing a server list, but can it be right? Here's an example:

When my son is at his mum with a more simple network (same ISP), but a router that cost nothing, then there isn't an issue. So I'm like, what the... I paid a lot for mine. ğŸ˜¬

So does anyone know about changes that can be done to the router itself or is it just maxed out by a game and a PC on the network, is that possible?

Assuming that the only application that causes this phenomenon is Rust, that is where I would start looking for solutions.

What happens when the suggested changes are made to the game settings?

  • What modem/gateway do you have?

what firmware is on the router?

Is the device connected hardwired or over wireless?

      Firmware is: V4.6.14.3

      PC's are connected using wired,

Uncertain about modem model, but it's an ICOTERA fiber box

      • I'd check on what fibre box that is. MIght be a gateway with its own router built in and cause a double nat

Yes so far only that application, so trying those Steam changes. Was just curious if others had same experience and maybe there was a solution on the router itself. It's a 1000mbit internet connection, so it's not traffic as such, but yes something that kind of DDOS the router on network and it's like stunned whilte it happens. ğŸ™‚
