Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

Hi

I’m having a weird issue, since i bought the RBS850 and RBS850 before 6 month they were working fine but suddenly since last week the WiFi speed dropped significantly from 500Mb to 180mb without any reason. But the WiFi performance on my other RBS are still performing as they intend with 500Mb download and 300 upload. So my issue is only with RBR (router). When I do the speed test from the App it shows the max as I used to have but not Wi-Fi.
I tried Factory reset (twice) and I tried different WiFi channels but it didn’t solve the issue.
I noticed also my XVR is disconnected from time to time even thou its connected by cable.
my setup:
Firmware Version V4.6.3.16_2.0.51
Asus as Router WiFi is disabled
RBR850 as AP 2.4ghz channel 11, 5ghz channel 36, AX is enabled
2 RBS850

ISP Speed 750Mb download and 300Mb Download

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
https://kb.netgear.com/31029/Where-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite 📡

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

What devices are you using to speed test with?

how to find the MFR?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

around 1500 sq ft

RBR on the ground floor and RBS on the First Floor, more than 30 feet.

Tried auto and manual (1,6,11). Neighbors wifi is hard to reach since my house and their house are made of concrete also they use different wifi ch than me.

What devices are you using to speed test with?

I used Wifi and cable by my laptop and my S22 ultra which supports wifi6

Might review this as well:

I saw that before but cant risk it using an unstable/verified version which might make my case worst.

FYI, as I mentioned previously This happened suddenly without changing the settings and it was working fine for months. and no issue with the RBS850.

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

Try turning OFF the RBS...and power cycle the RBR.

For that size of home, having the RBS maybe a bit too much wifi. The RBR alone can handle that size of home.

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

I did another speed test with my phone and I found that if I'm near the RBR within 3 meters i get the full speed, so the problem is more than 3 meters

did that before and didn't help

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

Depending upon distance and building materials and the device design and support, there can be speed drop off. Great distances you'll not see same speeds while near the RBR. Wired speed should always be consistant.

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

You have a point I'm with you, but I never had this issue before.

So what is the solution?

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

Give the pre-release FW a try. Follow the instructions.

I will try it, but can I revert back if it gets worst?

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

Try setting CTS from 64 to 500 or 2347.

Don't enable Armor.

Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.

Saw others saying that reverting back caused problems. I haven't tried this myself as I found the system working better on v.5 FW. I recommend that you don't revert back if you load it. Either try it or hold off and wait for next FW update.

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

I did the upgrade to V4.6.7.5_2.1.7 for BRB only since the RBS r doing great. So far it's much better download speed reach 450Mb, still not like before 500Mb.

I will keep an eye on it for 24hrs and i will let u know.

Thanks in advance @FURRYe38

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

Awsome. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

Same issue.

Cable modem service is consistently over 200Mbps.

Internet speed test from RBR850 consistently around 230Mbps.

Connections wired into LAN port are over 200Mbps.

All Wi-Fi connections are throttled to about 20Mbps.

Almost as if there is a configuration in the Orbi that is limiting throughput on WLAN.

Also, it’s very curious how the default 90 day support ran out just before this started to happen.  Hmm… don’t pay for extended support and you get throttled?

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

@FURRYe38

Firmware Version - V4.6.7.13_2.1.9

Comcast Internet using a Motorola MB7621 (DOCSIS 3.0)

- Bridge Mode.  Not double NATed Router is getting public IP direct from Comcast.

Speed Test Results:

Mac directly to CM: ~230Mbps

RBR850 onboard speed test: ~230Mbps

Xbox X ethernet to satelite (RBS850) Wi-Fi 6e meshed to RBR850: ~230Mbps

Any Wi-Fi 2.4Ghz or 5gHz connection: ~20Mbps

- iPhones, iPads, Mac, Samsung S21, Windows PC with SpeedTest, Fast, Speakeasy, and Google across all platforms.

Note: FW was upgraded recently after slow throughput noticed.  No improvement after upgrade.

I have professional experience with throttling technologies and this behavior matches to something artificially restricting Wi-Fi connections.

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

Is Armor enabled?

Try setting manual channel  1 and 40.

Set 40Mhz only and try changing CTS to 500 or 2347 Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Re: Suddenly slow WiFi RBR850

Update:

Tried all the setting options mentioned and nothing worked.

Tracked down a paper clip (who has these things anymore?) and performed a factory reset.  This resolved the issue... temporarily.

I had full speed with the default settings and Armor enabled.

I then disabled WMM from both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.  Speed tests went back to 20Mbps.

I re-enabled WMM and the speed went back up to full speed.

This seems like a bug in the Orbi software as disabling QoS prioritization should not artificially throttle Wi-Fi connections by 90%; I would actually expect the opposite.

Unfortunately, the WMM implementation for the RBR850 does seem to also affect wired connections in that my ethernet port connected Xbox X FPS games appear to be negatively affected when someone is running 4K Netflix on a Wi-Fi connected TV in the house.  The RBR850 also does not appear to have independent QoS settings or device prioritization options (maybe I'm missing something here).

The default prioritization of WMM is not ideal for >200Mbps connections; especially considering video is buffered and online gaming isn't.  Would be nice to have this customizable or maybe device specific.
