Ah, got it.
Slightly related: enabling DHCP to be handled by the raspi would effectively solve for this. Any reason the Orbi system would suffer if I turn off DHCP on the Orbi?

Having two DHCP services would cause problems if running same IP address pool.
If you have DHCP handing by the Pi, why not change the Orbi configuration to AP mode, then you'll get what your DHCP/DNS server puts out to any connected client.
