DNS Forwarding and dnsmasq on RBR20

Hello!

I've set up a Pi-Hole on my network and mostly everything is working fine. It looks like the Orbi is running dnsmasq itself to check DNS against something (orbilogin.com ?) and if it's not that, then it passes through to my configured DNS options. Because of this, the Pi Hole is only able to track the router as a client and not each individual device.

Is there a way to disable the Orbi dnsmasq and have DNS solely on a different server?

  • You can set DNS addresses, DNS proxy can't be disabled I believe.

Yeah, I have the DNS server set as a device (raspi) with a static IP. That's all fine, but seeing orbilogin.com still work seems like something nelse is going on.

Is that what you mean by "DNS proxy"?

DNS proxy or relay is enabled on most NG router. Means that you can tell the router what DNS addresses to used on the WAN side, however DNS of 192.168.1.1 will be given to the any connected client. The router will do the DNS processing thus being a proxy or relay.
