A quick and effective way to recover from this Orbi split brain problem is to reboot the Orbi, but that solution would only last a day or so before I had to reboot it again. After repeating this rebooting process for about another week, I finally threw in the towel and switched it back to AP Mode. Even though it's a failure, I still am optimistic that one day I will be able to switch it to Router Mode so that I could retire my Asus Routers to simplify my network.
Given these two fixes:
- [Bug Fix] Fixes the wireless crash and reboot issue when the router is under stress.
- [Bug Fix] Fixes the WiFi disconnection and IOT issue.
I gave it another shot with the latest version, v2.5.0.38. Unfortunately, the RBR50, when in Router mode, lost Internet connection again the next morning, but both RBS50s are still solidly connected to RBR50. Given a reboot would resolve this issue instantly, this narrows down to DHCP server or routing features, which are the main suspects. These two features are not active in AP mode, which could explain why it's stable in AP mode. I'll give this another shot when there's a change related to these two features in futre FW update.
@FURRYe38 wrote:Something to make a new post about if you wanna troubleshoot or give feed back. Curious to know what ISP modem you are using with the RBR when in router mode. I have a C7800 in mode mode only currently connected to the RBR50.
Well, it's time to start this discussion.
Here is an instance where one of my Satellites, 192.168.1.254, lost its connection while it was streaming from Amazon. This resulted in buffering on the client until its Internet connection is re-establised. The good news was that the outage/buffering was brief, because the Satellite RBS50 was able to recover and re-establish its Internet connection quickly.
However, when this happened with the RBR50 while it was in Router Mode, it would require a reboot of RBR50 to re-establish its Internet connection with the Cable Modem. A reboot isn't required when RBR50 is in the AP Mode because all the Orbi IP addresses are reserved/static and its lease on its IP address never expires.

Forcing Orbi (AP Mode) to use fixed IP Address, which was a reserved IP Address on the Asus Router, seems to be the answer for me.

Re: ORBI RBR50/RBS50 lost Internet connection (FW v2.5.0.38)
Please start your debug log capture along with Enable LAN/WAN Packet Capture on the RBR:
You can start the RBS debug capture aswell. Reproduce this again and immediately go in and select Save Debug Log button on the RBR and RBS debug web page. Then send off to NG support.

Re: ORBI RBR50/RBS50 lost Internet connection (FW v2.5.0.38)
This is not a complex setup and if NG can't replicate this issue in house, that will be really scary!
The simple test setup:
=================
1. Orbi RBR50 in Router or AP Mode
2. Daisy-Chain disabled /w 3 Advanced WiFi featured check boxes ticked/enabled
3. NAS/Wired clients connected to Satellite-1 via NG switch
4. Wireless Nest IoT devices/doorbell camera connected to Orbi Router or Orbi Satellites
5. Start Amazon/Netflix streaming traffics to all the Orbi boxes for 48-hours...
Monitor the status of IoT devices, streaming clients, and Orbi logs and verify that there's no issue, i.e. missing log from previous days or notification about Nest doorbell camera going offline. This is one of the test cases that I would expect from NG QA to perform prior to releasing new FW.
