Orbi AC3000 (RBR50) is in AP mode, can't connect to internet, can't be accessed via ethernet

Hi,

My ISP recently performed maintenance which changed the signal to my internet modem and caused complete internet degradation. After the ISP fixed the issue, which included moving the modem, Orbi router and separate Firewall to a different location, I can no longer get internet on the Orbi router. The ring at the top stays magenta; the Orbi apps shows the router as disconnected. I completely removed the separate firewall, and connected the Orbi router directly into the modem, but this also does not work since the Orbi router is in AP mode. Iorder to put the router out of AP mode, I tried accessing the Orbi router by plugging an ethernet cable directly from my laptop to an ethernet port in the router - does not work. I tried using the default IP address to reach the router - does not work. I tried using the IP address the firewall app shows for the router - does not work. Is there any other way to get into this router? I am trying to avoid a complete factory reset. which seems to have its own issues based on all the posts I saw.

How can I get into this Orbi router, that has no internet access and is in AP mode?

Would appreciate any insights from the community.

  • I'd re-trace back what changes you did if the system had been working before.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

I'd check into the firewall device to make sure it's not blocking anything that is going to the RBR in AP mode.

Be sure your using the WAN port on the RBR in AP mode for the main connection to the host router for internet services.

      Hello,

Thanks for your info. Yes, I have rebooted computer, modem and Orbi RBR50 multiple times. The firewall is no longer in place - i have completely removed it. It appears that the Orbi router can't get internet access when connected directly to the modem because it is in AP mode (the firewall was in router mode and therefore the Orbi in AP mode). I assume I have to put the Orbi back into router mode, to get internet access? That's what I am trying to do, but I can't get into the Orbi; have tried several different ways - cannot get into the Orbi router to put it back into router mode.

I should also add that apparently the firewall got corrupted in all the back and forth with rebooting various devices. It's now on its way back to the OEM for fixing. This is why I need to put the Orbi router back into router mode, so it can get internet access from the modem. But I can't get into the Orbi router....
