Orbi RBR50 Mesh Slow speeds when connected to Virgin Media Hub 5
Hi all
Running 1 x RBR50, 2 x RBR30 and 1 x Orbi Extender. I have VM Huib 5 and 1Gbps package. RBR 50 in Router mode and Hub 5 in Modem mode. All was running fine for a month or so since upgrading until VM carried out some 'works' a few days ago. Now on any device connect by wifi via Orbi I only get max 90mbps. When I connect to the VM in router mode i get 700mbps no probs. I have put Hub in modem and router mode, same result. I have put Orbi in AP and Router mode, again same result. I'm out of ideas - can anyone help please?
Thanks.
Rik
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A is recommended.
What is the connection rate seen on the RBRs web page under Advanced tab/Show Stats for the WAN port connected to the ISP modem? 100 or 1000Mbps?
Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply - answers below:
I followed your guidance, initially was only seeing 100M on WAN port:
So I swapped the cable out and I am now getting 1000M
Ran speeds test via Wi-Fi and now getting the expected speeds - thanks!
Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Did this VM activity involve your physical Hub 5 ?
Since you can connect directly to the VM Hub and get 700Mb, what happens when the same device is connected to an Orbi LAN port?

Thanks for your reply.
Did this VM activity involve your physical Hub 5 ? - I suspect so as when running diagnostics on their app it said to reset the Hub 5 - Which I have done (twice). I have also reset the Orbi.

Ok, at the time of writing this when connecting directly to the 2.5gbps port on the back of the Hub 5 I get 383mbps. When connecting to any other port on the back of the Hub 5 I get 90mbps.
When connected directly to the Orbi I get 90mbps in every port (apart from the yellow internet port of course). All Wi-Fi devices will only run at 90mbps max. My external IP has changed but that doesn't affect anything i'm sure. I have port forwarding set up for my CCTV and that is the only config I have on the Orbi system that differs from standard

Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
Try option #2 first...
