Orbi RBS50 can you use router as extender and asditionally ise satellites?
I have an Orbi RBS50 router and 2 satellites. I am continuing to use my Sonic gateway, and I have set up my Orbi RBS50 router as a mere extender. However, I also have 2 matching Orbi satellites, and they will not sync to the main Orbi unit. Is this setup even viable?
Thank you for any help.
Thank you for any help.
Your picture shows the RBS40V. That device has two mode options, as satellite for an Orbi router or as standalone extender.
When it comes to the RBS50, I suspect that CrimpOn was asking how you have got this set up.
If you are putting the RBS50 behind another router, then the easiest option would be to put the RBS50 into access point (AP) mode. If you do that. you can certainly connect satellites to the RBS50. I had an RBS40V set up like that before I pensioned it off as being a useless toy.

Terminology is important. The Orbi base unit (RBR50) can be set to one of two 'modes':
- Router (the default), or
- Access Point (AP)
In either mode, Orbi satellites (RBS50) will sync to the base unit to create a WiFi network.
Please explain more about "mere extender".
- otherappliancesAspirantThank you for your reply. I see multiple errors with my post. I will check the exact model names when I am able and get back to you. What I mean by extender, is that in the app, the Sonic gateway is listed as the router, and the Orbi unit is shown as "extender". Picture attached. I'll give more detail tomorrow am.
