Orbi useless for IPTV (no multicast/IGMPV3)???
Hi everyone,
I just installed my new Orbi System (also ran the firmware update, currently 1.4.0.18) with 1 satellite and everything seemed to run pretty smoothly. That was until I switched on my TV... It´s an IP-TV system (Telekom Entertain in Germany) and after five seconds of running the screen freezes. The media receiver is connected to the Orbi satellite via LAN cable. People with far more networking knowledge than myself told me that my router probably doesn´t support multicast, which is needed for IPTV. Can this be true???
I buy a €400+ WiFi system to get all my networking issues sorted out and it is no use for IPTV? Please, someone tell me what to do (other than throwing my Orbi into the trashcan...)
Thanks
Alex
The new FW Version 1.5.0.12 should support IGMP Proxy!

Hi rookie8155
Thanks for your reply. That means Netgear Orbi does not work for German IP Televison as it cannot handel Multic Cast Datas IGMPv3 as it used from german Telekom fro their IPTV.
I will use than instead Devolo Gigagate to get the IPTV Receiver connected .
Thanks
I installed Orbi system couple of days ago and I have IPTV connected to Orbi router with ethernet cable. I don't have any issues. My firmware is also the latest 1.4.0.18.

Hi
Did you use German IPTV ?
Hi Ganter,
yes, T-Home Entertain to be precise. And my ISP ist Deutsche Telekom as well...
Cheers,
Alex
The only setting to try is to enable IGMP Proxy in WAN Setup.
Hi Ether, thanks for trying to help, but I can´t find anything of relevance under WAN Setup...
These are my options in WAN Setup:
Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection Default DMZ Server . . . Respond to Ping on Internet Port MTU Size(in bytes) NAT Filtering Secured Open Disable SIP ALG Do you have any other ideas? Thank you.
Cheers, Alex
Strange that it's not there. Try performing a reset to factory settings. If the setting is still missing, then you may have to resort to using the Orbi as an AP instead of a router.
