RBR 50, AC3000 with 2nd satellite and metal building

I have a working AC3000 system with a 2nd satellite.  House as the router and one satellite. My shop is a metal building with the 2nd satellite about 80 feet away. I’m tired of needing to have my work shop rollup door open for the 2nd satellite to work. So I’m thinking of adding a point to point to the shop. I don’t want to run a cable underground do to the granite rocks. I have seen some posts that you "can’t" have an Orbi system with a point to point and a satellite on the end.  So my question can I use a 2nd Orbi router in AP mode at the end of the point to point or will I need a different AP just for the shop.

  • The 2nd satellite will work "as a satellite" when connected over an ethernet link (or wireless equivalent).  There will be one Orbi mesh network.

Another Orbi router can be installed (instead of the satellite, either in router or AP mode), but it will NOT become part of the original Orbi "mesh".  It will be a separate WiFi network, just as any other WiFi access point would be (from any brand).  That is, devices will not automatically "roam" between the main Orbi and the shop WiFi.

Since the 2nd satellite is already in place, purchasing another WiFi access point does not seem to be necessary (or desirable).
