Updating the firmware for my RBR50 and RBS50
My current firmware that I'm on is V1.4.0.18. Any recommendations on how to update to the latest firmware version? Thank you all in advance

Re: Updating the firmware for my RBR50 and RBS50
This is a three step process:
- Update router and satellites using the "Manual Update" tab to firmware V2.2.1.212
https://kb.netgear.com/000060612/RBR50-RBS50-Firmware-Version-2-2-1-212 - Update router and satellites using the Manual Update tab to firmware VV2.3.0.32
- Then update router and satellites to any version after that. Please be aware that Netgear appears to be auto-updating to V2.7.3.22 once firmware reaches a certain level.
I, personally, prefer to connect directly to satellite web pages (http://<ip of satellite>) and select the bottom menu item (Firmware Update).
Hope this is helpful.

Re: Updating the firmware for my RBR50 and RBS50
Thank you so much. In what order do I need to do the update? I was told do the satellite first. Is that true? Also when updating the satellite can I just plug my cat5 cable directly into the router to update it or do I need to plug it directly into the satellite? Thank do much in advance.

Re: Updating the firmware for my RBR50 and RBS50
Yes, the generally accepted practice is to do the satellites first. Personally, I have no idea if that is required, better, or not.
Connecting directly to the router with an ethernet cable is also the recommended practice. A WiFi connection will work, but is not as convenient as a wired connection.

Re: Updating the firmware for my RBR50 and RBS50
I'm trying to update the firmware on my RBR50 router and RBS50 satellites. My router is currently on version V1.4.0.18, I have 2 satellites on version V1.4.0.18, one satellite that I just added is on version V2.7.3.22.
I had to disconnect the new satellite due to connection issues it was causing, but I can't seem to find a valid update for the older satellites and the router.
I'm running the Orbi app on my older MacBook, OS Monterey, version 12.3.1.
Any suggestions on how to get my old stuff up to date?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Updating the firmware for my RBR50 and RBS50
The original (2016) Orbi firmware was based on a maximum firmware file size that the engineers thought, "Heck. It will NEVER get bigger than this!" And then Netgear decided to add Bitdefender Armor and Parental Controls to the firmware. The firmware file went over the maximum size. So, Netgear released a version of firmware that had only one fix: it increased the maximum file size parameter.
Users must load firmware 2.2.1.212 first, then install the latest firmware.

I keep getting message "this firmware file is incorrect. Please get the proper file."
I hate my Orbi!

Hmmm. Strange. It has always worked when I download a zip file from Netgear support, open it and extract the *.img file for router (or satellite).

Re: Updating the firmware for my RBR50 and RBS50
I think this is part of the problem...the file from Netgear support is not extractable, ie; not a .zip file.
It does have the .img extension, but won't load.

I just opened that web page again, and both download files are clearly *.zip.
