Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

Interesting find. Ya Mac WiFi is on and looking for wifi to connet too. Sure is add that they are causing this kind of slow done on the RBR when they are not actually connected. Give the turning them back on a try at some point to see if the problem appears. If your Macs are wired most of the time, ya, disable the WiFi radios on them. Seem to cause some interference problems. I keep mine off when the wifi isn't needed.

Thanks for sharing.

Just an anecdotal observation.  I have been struggling with the 'every 2 -3 day slowdown' for well over a year.  I have done pretty much everything listed in this message list (74 and counting).  The slow down only happens with my main router, not the satellite.  I have multiple MACs in the same room as the main router.  They were all ethernet connected.  I noticed that they all had wifi turned on as well.  Turned off wifi on all of them and I have now gone 2 weeks with no slow down.  No idea why this has happened. I am loath to turn wifi back on to test if this is real or just a coincidence.

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

To those whom is using RBK50 and Voxel's customized firmware. And has wifi speed drop down after reboot about 2-3 days later.

You can login the backend to set up cron job to schedule reboot.

Here is how and dependancy.

1. you are using  Voxel's customized firmware or able to login by SSH.

2. login into the router such command like :

ssh -l root ip.address.of.your.router

input your password which same as you webui login password.

crontab -e

then press " i " for input. Here is the command.

00 02 1,4,7,10,13,16,19,22,25,28 * * /sbin/init 6

which means: At 02:00 on day-of-month 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, and 28.” kill all process and reboot gracefully rather than forceful unmounts filesystems and restarts the system.

you can check here: https://crontab.guru/#00_02_1,4,7,10,13,16,19,22,25,28_*_*

then

press " Esc " and type " :wq "

to write to file and quit edit window.

to verify all set, you check as this command:

crontab -l

and you should see "00 02 1,4,7,10,13,16,19,22,25,28 * * /sbin/init 6" is there. The rest is wait and see.

Oh, btw, it looks like RBK router has not showing system up time on default homepage. But you can check it here:

Thanks for posting this. Hope it helpful. My RBK50 in AP mode has same speeds with out a reboot.

NG doesn't show uptime on stock FW. However you can see using http://router IP address/debug.htm

can't edit my previous post. Here is update. 1. the linux system look like different from SUSE Linux or similar. 2. "nvram commit" was not save to storage before reboot. Don't figure why yet. 3. After reboot, the crontab job NOT existing anymore. ... Therefore, please ignore my previous post till has correct commit solution .

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

I had the same problem, but it's now fixed. Wired speed from router to ISP over 200 Mnps, same on wifi for router and satellites. After 2-3 days, wifi when connected to router dropped to 40, but both wifi through satellites and wired from router to ISP remained over 200. So, it was solely a problem with connecting by wifi to router itself.

My problem was LG smart TV. I erased wifi internet connection from TV setup. After resetting router, the wifi speeds haven't dropped in over 3 weeks. Before, it routinely dropped every 2-3 days.

Go through everything connected to the router itself, disable one at a time, reset and wait to see what fixes it.

My setup:
Firmware 2.5.1.8
RBR50, RBS50 x2 - no daisy chain
Armor Bitdefender active

Good observation @Geddy007. I think I've seen similar behaviour in my Orbi previously. What is special with this TV? Does it also have a wired connection to the network? Was it attached with Orbi previously as wired? Does the TV also act as an AP? Please look where this TV can cause loops in the network by having two different interfaces.

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

TV was never wired - always wifi. It's not an AP that I know of. I never really even used the wifi connection, since all my entertainment comes through FireTV stick. The TV wifi connection was only used for the TV to get software updates for itself, which I don't really need. Now, if I want to check for a TV software update, I can manually connect to check and then erase wifi settings again.

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
.

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Above suggestions working:

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

EQUIPMENT:  RBR40 with a Satellite (latest firmware (V2.3.5.32) as of april 2020).

I and was experiencing the same behaivor everyone on this thread has been messaging.

To recap..

The issue with download speeds limited to 40Mbps, would present itself about 3-4 days after reboot.

Restarting the router would temporarily resolve the problem.

Factory reset did not fix the problem.

Tuning down the 5ghz to 75% and 2.4ghz to 25% didn't help.

Mixed 20/40 mhz being disabled, did not help.

Eventually, I unplugged my satellite, and the issues did not persist.  I am noW 11 days in, no problems,

I noticed my Surface book laptop which was 4 ft from the router (through a wall), would connect to the Satellite (50ft away, via many walls).

So i think either with an update, the mesh was no longer coordinating with my devices to have them associate to one AP or the other.

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

So I'm convinced this issue is a firmware problem. In the past 2.5 months, I've bought 1 RBK53 (2 satellites), 3 different RBK50 and 1 RBK50V systems and on every one of them, I've had this problem. I have 1Gig internet w/ FiOS. My backhaul is wireless. I have about 50 total devices connected to both the router and satellite. Over WiFi, I typically get about 400/400 on the router and about 350/350 on the satellite. After 2 days, on every one of the systems, devices connected to the satellite consistently drop to about 35/40. It's very consistent and has occurred on all 5 systems I've bought. Therefore, I doubt it's a hardware issue. It's shocking to me that not everyone is complaining about this.

On the RBK53, the slowdown interestingly only occurred on 1 of the satellites. The 2nd satellite stayed fast. I then switched the location of both satellites and the one that originally had the slowdown still had the slowdown in the new location. The 2nd one stayed fast. As such, I doubt this issue has to do with devices connecting to satellites but rather, I think it's a firmware that affects almost all satellites but not every satellite. Maybe I've just been unlucky with 5/6 faulty satellites.

My Setup:

- SFR ISP (France) FTTH 1Gb DL / 500Mb Up.

-> Netgear GS105E-V2 last Firmware. -> Orbi RBK50 Only (Sat is not installed).

Drop speed is on both band: 2.4 and 5ghz, so the chanel is not an argument. Orbi firmware is 2.5.1.16, factory reset has been done a couple of version ago du to end support of separate SSID, but i had the drop speed issue before.

For me the drop speed is after on or two weeks, not days.

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

It's time to give up on Orbi. I'm still within my return window for my latest purchase so would return it. Thanks for your help but I don't need a RMA because as I said, I've tried 5 different Orbi RBK50 or RBK50V systems and every single one of them has had this issue. There's also a chance that something about my devices (maybe too many devices connected to the Satellite) causes the system to slow down but that's unacceptable to me. I give up though.

Wondering if there is some sort of wifi interferances around your area that maybe a cause as well.

Ok, yes if your with in your warranty return period, return it and find something else that works for you. Sorry Orbi didn't.

Good Luck.

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

For me, the consistency of when the satellite slows down (every 4 days on the latest firmware) makes me really doubt it's wi-fi interference. I'd expect that if it was truly interference, the slowdowns would occur right away. The other interesting thing is that the latest firmware delayed when the slow down occurs (was previously every 2 days consistently but now, it's always 4 days). As such, pretty positive it's a firmware issue. Just not sure if the firmware gets bogged down based on the number of devices etc.

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

Possible combination of FW, HW and environment. I tend to think more envrionment if you have tired other Orbi systems and they exhibit same problem.

Something to try, turn OFF the RBS and just run the RBR alone. Turn OFF all non priority devices, use just a few and check speeds over the few days. Then graduate adding some devices, keep in adding untill you notice something.

Re: WiFi Slow after 2-3 days until reboot?

I hate to say it, but I gave up fighting with this thing.  I have tried everything - factory resets, new firmware, old firmware, custom firmware, changing channels based on local wifi signals, etc..  I even went so far as to spend 2 hours in my attic and basement getting a network cable up to the location where my satellite was - no help.  The number of speed reductions and connection drops was becoming increasingly frustrating.  Given I am out of my warranty period I have purchased the ASUS ZenWiFi AT8.

I am open minded enough that I will monitor the ASUS for similar behavior, and if it occurs, it would support the theory that there is something environmental or a problem with my infrastructure - and not with the Orbi itself.

Good luck everyone.
