RBR850/RBS850 constant Internet disconnect on V4.6.3.16_2.0.51

RBR850 / RBS850

FW:  V4.6.3.16_2.0.51

Getting Internet disconnects several times a day since upgrading firmware upgrade from 3.2.16.x. Now on latest and behavior remains.

- Been through more than a few factory resets and reconfigs... that ain't it.

- If I reboot in the morning, I typically get thru 8-10 hours until disconnects start again

This is a bug!

Come on Netgear, fix it.

Problem solved.

Switched to AP Mode and running through an Untangle firewall. It gives me much more control and logs everything to a local syslog instance. I'm also out of forced and poorly tested firmware updates.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Does the front LED on the RBR turn ON when this happens?

GPON ONT

Model:  FOG421

I have never looked at the light as its just out of sight on the shelf beside me. I know its a disconnect because I get booted from VPN and RBR850 log looks like this:

[DHCP IP: (192.168.1.7)] to MAC address AB:CD:EF:01:23:45, Thursday, Sep 23,2021 21:29:01
[DHCP IP: (192.168.1.13)] to MAC address AB:CD:EF:01:23:46, Thursday, Sep 23,2021 21:28:59
[Time synchronized with NTP server] Thursday, Sep 23,2021 21:06:41
[Internet connected] IP address: 47.177.112.123, Thursday, Sep 23,2021 21:06:17
[Internet disconnected] Thursday, Sep 23,2021 21:06:16
[DHCP IP: (192.168.1.4)] to MAC address AB:CD:EF:01:23:47, Thursday, Sep 23,2021 21:05:32

One more bit of information is that I ran the Frontier router and wireless for several days a week or so ago to eliminiate the network connection. It was rock solid the entire time.

Re: RBR850/RBS850 constant Internet disconnect on V4.6.3.16_2.0.51

If this was happening before the FW update and on prior versions of FW, possible this is a ISP and ONT issue.

Seeing it disconnect then reconnect like that mean the RBR lost the connection to the ONT or the ONT lost it's service to the ISP signal. Something to have the ISP check and ask them to check there logs for your line to see if they see any of these disconnections in there logs for your line.

Be sure your using good quality LAN cable between the ONT and RBR. CAT6 is recommended.

Please do not post MAC or public WAN side IP addresses in public forums.

Re: RBR850/RBS850 constant Internet disconnect on V4.6.3.16_2.0.51

This all start after update to 3.2.18.

I did have chat with Frontier who tells me ONT connections were solid. They won't troublehsoot router issues for Orbi. As mentioned, switched to Frontier router for 4 days and there were no issues.

Thanks for mentioned the MAC/IP addresses. MAC addresses & public IP addresses are all fake in the post.

Please mark your thread as solved so others will know.
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
