Guest Network Issue

Guest Network Issue

So when I had first purchased the orbi 970 (2 pack) which comes with one router and one satellite. I followed the instructions just like every other routers i had in the past and installed both the router and satellite via wired backhaul and it works fine. With only the 970 orbi i noticed the issue with the guest network. i called netgear and told them the whole issue. they sent me over another replacement unit and that also had the same exact issue where if any of my device that was connected to the guest network and would come close to the satalitte, it would look like that connected device would not have no internet access at all even if the wifi bars were full. So then i decided to return both the replacement and the original unit back to netgear because i was also having the pixel 8 pro issue. But then you told me that you guys have found a fix for the pixel pro 8 phone and thats when i decided to buy the product again. I turned on the guest network and its the same issue with the devices not being able to have no internet access only when they are connected under the satallite. If they are connected to the router under the guest network then the devices work absolutely fine. in the couple of days i actually powered off my satallite and was able to use the guest network flawlessly. Now i currently have the satallite installed and turned off the guest network. I did not touch any thing else on the admin settings.

Re: Guest Network Issue

So after couple of days with having both the router and the satallite on wired backhaul, I can finally say that the guest network is working flawlessly after this new firmware update. The only one issue that I am still having on my pixel 8 pro is that sometimes just randomly I get a no internet connection message on my phone. I then have to go into my wifi settings and click on my primary SSID and click on disconnect and then click on reconnect and then it works. I notice it happens a lot when ever I leave the router and get connected on the satallite or vice versa and I get that same error message that I have no internet and that's when I do that same steps in order to gain wifi access.

Re: Guest Network Issue

I don't think the Pixel issue is in this version of FW.
I believe there is a beta that's available that you can send a PM to @Straq to get ahold of.

Re: Guest Network Issue

It's not a pixel issues. It's a guest network issue. This is the firmware I received from straq.

Re: Guest Network Issue

If you connect the RBS wirelessly to the RBR does same problem happen?

His is the one RBS connected to the RBR? Directly behind the RBR or is there a LAN switch in between or a patch panel?

Which port are you using on the RBR to connect the RBS?

What CAT# LAN cable is being used between them?

What security mode are you setting on the Guest Network?

Re: Guest Network Issue

I have tired using it wirelessly as well but same issue. Both are connected via a cat 7 cable. On the router end it is connected on the 10gig port and the other end on the 10 gig port satallite

Re: Guest Network Issue

And there both connected directly beind the RBR? No LAN switch?

Is one RBS connected to the 1 10Gb LAN port? Or are both connected to on of the 4 other LAN ports in back?

I just checked mine. GN enabled and using mixed mode WPA2 and WPA3. Android pad and Iphone 12 Pro Max both connected to the RBS I was nearest. RBS wirelessly connected to my RBR.

Streamed some HD video from youtube. No issues. Speed test returns good.

Re: Guest Network Issue

Yup don't have any switch connected. One is plugged behind RBR 10gig port and the other end in satallite 10 gig port. I also had wpa 2 and 3 enabled.

Re: Guest Network Issue

Ok. Maybe some odd behavior that needed a disable then re-enabled.

Glad it's working. Enjoy.

Re: Guest Network Issue

I spoke to soon. The same issue has arise now. I have disconnected some of my devices from the guest network since there is no Internet access anymore. It's like it just stops working. Even though you see that it has full bars. Works fine when connected and you are close to the router but not the satellite.

Re: Guest Network Issue

I'd reach out to @Straq and see if there maybe a beta upgrade possible.

I got home today and GN is working for me with mine.

Re: Guest Network Issue

I have sent him a private message, but he is MIA. I had a Netgear orbi 960 before this 970 mesh system and never had any issues with the guest network or any other matter.

Re: Guest Network Issue

What mode is the 970 series working in? Router or AP mode?

Re: Guest Network Issue

I have now unplugged the wired backhaul and will try the wireless backhaul just like how you have it. It's working for now. Will test it for a day and let you know.

Re: Guest Network Issue

Okay so after more than 18 hrs the guest network is working absolutely flawless. Looks like it works if you have the satallite and router via wireless backhaul. I guess I will stop using wired backhaul for now until Netgear fixes this issues. Just an FYI I was using a cat 7 cable. It's also the same brand cat 7 cable that is coming from my modem into my router.

Re: Guest Network Issue

I recommend that you update to this if you see this version in orbi app:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-WiFi-7-BE-Mesh-Systems/New-RBE970-RBE971-Firmware-V9-10-4-1-1-...

If you do, have it download and update the system.

Once system is back to ready, power OFF the RBR and ALL RBS for 1 minute then back ON.
With the RBS will wireless, test Guest Network. If all is good, while RBS are ON, ethernet connect them to the RBR.

Then test Guest Network.

Let us know what you find.
