Why does the ReadyDrop process is still active on the 6.8.1 beta 1??
root 5328 0.0 0.1 45036 4740 ? Ss 21:06 0:00 /usr/sbin/readydropd
root 5380 0.0 0.0 12584 164 ? S 21:06 0:00 /opt/readydrop/bin/rdbrokerd
root 5381 0.0 0.0 4336 1616 ? S 21:06 0:00 /bin/sh /opt/readydrop/bin/rdhook.sh
ReadyDrop ceased exactly a year ago. The domain name "readydrop.netgear.com" does not resolve anymore and I'm getting about 50,000 queries for that domain per day on my DNS server.
host readydrop.netgear.com
Host readydrop.netgear.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

Re: ReadyDrop - 6.8.1 Beta 1
Interesting...also considering the ReadyNAS ReadyDROP End-of-Service note.

Re: ReadyDrop - 6.8.1 Beta 1
My understanding is that the readydropd service was repurposed to provide the sync functionality for ReadyCLOUD. So if you have ReadyCLOUD enabled, readydropd will also run.
Are the DNS lookups coming from the NAS, or from other devices? I noticed that your screenshot showed two different client IPs for those DNS queries. I just captured packets for several minutes on a NAS here running readydropd, and didn't see any DNS queries for readydrop.netgear.com.

Re: ReadyDrop - 6.8.1 Beta 1
Hi Skywalker,
I have 2 NAS running on my Network : ReadyNAS 102 - 6.7.5 and ReadyNAS-524X 6.8.1-Beta1. The DNS requests are indeed coming from both NAS. Both are trying to reach every 10 sec the domain readydrop.netgear.com . But this domain does not resolve anymore.
Edit: I did a capture of my RN524X:

Re: ReadyDrop - 6.8.1 Beta 1
I would like to add that turning off ReadyCloud stop the ReadyDrop DNS request from NAS.

Re: ReadyDrop - 6.8.1 Beta 1
Thanks for the confirmation. I was eventually able to see the queries, and track down where they're coming from. We'll fix it shortly.
