Now I have a pfsense with AP but the Wi-Fi is not great so I am looking at a all in one.
How good is the Firewall element on Netgear Skyhawk range?
Can it do vlan's per port or say a device can only go out on udp, 53 to x ips?

Not that great. for consumer gear, its basically not much changes the user can make.
You'd be better to keep your pfsense and just add a mesh system to it with the mesh system in AP mode.
