IP Address Change, Model No. 6129-100-NAS, Firmware Version V1.0.0.84
On 09/05/2023 I removed my Netgear Wi-Fi Router Model No. R6129-100-NAS and my Arris Cable Modem as my cable company, Cox Communications , gave me an all-in-one Cox Panoramic Wi-Fi Gateway Router and Cable Modem. I had it installed for three days and due to many issues with it, I uninstalled and reinstalled my previous devices. After reinstalling, everything worked and still works well. The only thing I’m concerned with is the fact my IP addresses changed. They used to be 192.xxx.x.x or xx. My new IP addresses are now 10.xx.xx.x or xx. I am leaving out the other numbers for security purposes. Why did this happen and is it legit?
Thank you....... BigM27 09/20/2023

- microchip8MasterThe address change is due to the NETGEAR router detecting another router on your network. Make sure the Cox gizmo is set to bridge mode (if possible), or you'll be in a double NAT situation where you'll have 2 LANs that can't talk to each others.

Thank you for the reply. I don't think your answer applies as I am not using the Cox Panoramic Wi-Fi Gateway Router and Cable Modem. Using Netgear Wi-Fi Router and Arris Cable Modem,

What is that cable modem?
The exact number is not what matters, but the features it offers. If it is a modem/router then the answer from microchip8 may well apply.
The fact that you get IP addresses of 10.xx.xx.x or xx suggests that you have two routers there. (No need to mask the full IP address, it is on your local network and no one can get at it from the outside world.) Your messages haven't told us what this Arris Cable Modem is.
I assume that your R6129 is really the R6120. If so, Don't expect ,much from it, the thing is limited to 100 Mbps.
According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware. This may not matter to you, but be warned that it will hobble you if you ever sign up for faster Internet, anything over than 100 Mbps is a waste of your money with that router.
