Odd Happenings with my Nighthawk AC1900

I bought this router new from Best Buy less than three months ago. Everything's been great until this morning.

  • My personal laptop is connected using ethernet.
  • All other devices (phones, work laptop, televisions, Firesticks, etc.) are connect using WiFi. The work laptop is on the 'guest' network, all others are on the 5G network.
  • This morning, my work laptop would not connect to the WiFi. I checked my phone and my wife's phone, they were not connected, either. My laptop (ethernet) was connected. All lights on the router were white, therefore, all "looked" normal.
  • I could not connect to the router using my laptop (it's never connected using the ethernet, only WiFi), so I reboot the router by disconnecting the power, waiting 30 seconds, and reconnecting the power.
  • After the router finished restarting, all WiFi connections worked. BUT, now the ethernet connection will not connect!! Again, all lights on the router appear white and normal.

What's the deal here? If this were you, what would be your next step?

Thanks in advance for any advice...expecially that advice that will fix this. :-)

  • This morning I could not get in using the router's web page, but this afternoon the system allowed me to do so.

Based on your recommendations (Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.), I changed 2.4Ghz to 11, and 5Ghz to 48. When I clicked "save" the web page froze, and internet connections all over the house failed. I waited ten minutes, nothing changed. I gave up trying and used a paper clip to reset the router to its original specs, and the setup was a breeze (just like the first time). Everything seems to be working now, except the ethernet connection. I'll get a new cable in the next day or two and see if that fixes that. Hopefully it will stay that way for a few years this time!

    Thanks.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

v1.0.11.116 - checked for updates, none available - had to use the app on my phone to check this, my Chrome browser on my laptop tells me "This site can't be reached" when I try www.routerlogin.com or www.routerlogin.net. Never had that issue before today, either.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Modem supplied by ISP (Spectrum), Model ET2251 - I do not see a brand name on the box anywhere

      Yes, Auto.

The whole neighborhood, I'm assuming. When I look at availabel WiFi on my phone, there are several on the list I'm not familiar with, but this has never been an issue before (been in this house 21 years - all houses in the 'hood built about the same time)

Can you access the routers web page at 192.168.1.1?

Ok, this is a Hitron branded modem. No router.

Might see about turning down the wifi output power on the router from 100% to 50%: Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
